Ian Perry - Europa Lyrics

On the 23rd June I heard a sigh
Windswept across the Alps
From Aegean night
It was one I thought I had outgrown
A girl on a white bulls back
Body flecked by foam
Underneath it all we were the same
Our deepest love
Was our deepest pain;
And I remember the first flower of April
And the sunrise of ideas we share
Through her my world was born

And the cloud covering our love
Was blood red as Jupiters storm;
Fogged up inside my own story
I tore free, determined to see a new sun

And I dreamt that night of a golden thread
A labyrinth and a dark descent
Of fluttering shades that called my name
As though I could raise them back to life again;
The darkness moved as a devil drew near
His damp breath moulding my heart with fear

I awoke today to an empty page
And a tangled world to negotiate
And I remember the first flower of April
And the sunrise of ideas we share
Through her my world was born:
Europa
