Jack White - No Name Album Lyrics

Jack White - No Name Lyrics

Old Scratch Blues

Jackie said she warned you
So tell me how you're gonna be
She's acting like she owned you, dethroned you
But nothing in the world is free

I think I need a tailor
This happens to me all the time
I'm cursin' like a drunken sailor
I'll trade a nickel for a dime anytime

I'll take you to the border
And show you how you're gonna be free
This machine is out of order, it stole my quarter
And now there's nothing left to take from me

A motorcycle rolling
And a percentage of the profit too
Another holy psycho trolling
So tell me how to stop this fool
Up until you figure it out
You never will be able to trust me
These suckers want to twist and shout, they're fighting it out
Until they find the key to leave, they will not bust me

Jackie said she warned you
So tell me everything you know
I'm not trying to alarm you or harm you
But is there something that I need to know?

You're gonna find out
You're gonna find out
You're gonna find out, you're gonna find out
Everything you need to give for free to be a sellout

Jackie said she warned you
So tell me how it's gonna be
She's acting like she owned you, dethroned you
But nothing in this world is free, at least not for me

Bless Yourself

When I walk into the structure
I do myself a favor
And I bless myself, yes

Every head must bow down
And every tongue confess
And I don't care how you found out
This is only a test
So test yourself

I see the way that you're looking down
Tripping through life as you fumble around
Quick check, respect, nobody around
So reach under your dress
And caress yourself
Yeah, now listen

People say, "I need God on command
God on demand"
If God's too busy then I'll bless myself
All these people saying, "Call your own shots"
They're not robots, they want no roadblocks
They are a team unto themself, they say
"I don't answer to anybody but myself!"

Whose fault is it now?
Who do you blame now?
You gonna cop to that?
If you're a cop, then arrest yourself
If you're trying to provoke yourself then
You're gonna need to invoke yourself then
A prayer spoken from the newly awoken says
"Must we always distress ourselves?"

You'll say this, you'll, you'll sing this

"Where did all the time go?"
"Where did all the love go?"
"I hung on to my ego, but now?"
I just want to drown myself
They say trust no one, not even yourself
So now I can't even trust myself?
Damn

We always hurt the ones we love
But now we also have to love ourselves
Are you feeling blessed?
Are you feeling blessed?
No?
Then bless yourself

That's How I'm Feeling

When it's cold outside
I need the strength to stay alive
And when I'm in my home
I need the strength to be alone

That's how I'm feeling
That's how I'm feeling right now
That's how I'm feeling
That's how I'm feeling right now, yeah
Yeah
Oh, oh yeah
Oh

And when I see you at night
I need an electric light
And when you call me at home
You only hear a dial tone
When it's cold outside, I need the strength to stay alive
And when I'm in my home, I need the strength to be alone

That's how I'm feeling
That's how I'm feeling right now
That's how I'm feeling
That's how I'm feeling right now, yeah
Oh, oh yeah
Oh, oh yeah
Oh, oh yeah
Oh, oh yeah

(I need the strength to stay alive, the strength to stay alive)
And when the demons arrive (I need the strength to stay alive)
I need to walk towards the light (I need to walk towards the light)
And when I'm feeling this way (I shouldn't have to be ashamed)
I shouldn't have to be ashamed

Because that's how I'm feeling
That's how I'm feeling right now
That's how I'm feeling, feeling
That's how I'm feeling right now, yeah
Oh, oh yeah
Oh, oh yeah
Oh, oh yeah
Oh, oh yeah

It's Rough on Rats (If You're Asking)

Yeah
Yes
Yeah

As bad as we got it
It sure must be rough on rats
The world is worse than when we found it
Sure must be rough on rats

Well, it's all too much
If you're asking me
It all cost too much
And nothing is free
There's too much, too much
But not enough for me
Well it's all too much
If you're asking
If you're asking

Preacher, priest or parson
Robbery, murder or arson
Is there any place for me there
I don't think so

As bad as we got it
It sure must be rough on rats
The world is worse than when we found it
Sure must be rough on rats
If we're not eating
Then they must have it rougher than us
I'm sure of that
But I should stop complaining every time it's raining
'Cause I'm still not food for cats
Ask me

Well, it's all too much
If you're asking me
It all cost too much
And nothing is free
There's too much, too much
But not enough for me
Well, it's all too much
If you're asking
If you're asking

Wise human or simple fool
Mineral or animalcule
Well, is there any home for me there?
I'm just asking
I'm just asking

As bad as we got it
It sure must be
The world is worse than when we found it
Sure must be
If we're not eating
Then they must have it rougher than us
I'm sure of that
But I should stop complaining every time it's raining
'Cause I'm sure not food for cats
Ask me

Well, it's all too much
If you're asking me
It all cost too much
And nothing is free
There's too much, too much
But not enough for me
Well, it's all too much
If you're asking

Archbishop Harold Holmes

Dear friend
If you want to feel better
Don't let the devil make you toss this letter
If you've been crossed up by hoodoo voodoo
The wizard or the lizard
You got family trouble? Man trouble? Woman trouble?
No light through the rubble?
You're looking for a true friend or a true lover
Or if you've been living undercover
I'm coming to your town to break it all down
And help you with all of this
I'm looking to help you find bliss
One day, one way, can't miss

I'm here to tear all the walls down
Doesn't matter if it's a large town or a small town
Just like Joshua and the fabled walls of Jericho
I'm here to tear down the institution

God spoke to me
Said, "Listen to me, I anoint you with the power
That'll get 'em all moving!"
You're agitated? You prayed and meditated?
You're concentrated on gettin' elevated?
By sundown, Monday
You who come will be blessed with the big money blessing
You will be doubted by all the unbelievers
On all the things I'm addressing
But you must tell seven friends
You must first bring seven friends
And don't be selfish and keep this all to yourself
And don't eat shellfish
Hate is trying to take someone else's love for yourself
But I'm here to tell you that love is trying to help someone else

I realize that you have tried and tried and are just about ready to give up
But I got good news for you
God has spoken to my mind and told me to tell you
To get moving in the right direction for a change
I'm gonna put you in the fast lane

You need to see me right away so I can fix this
You need to see me right away
You need to see me right away so I can fix this
You need to see me right about now

God of seven
Open up the windows of heaven
And pour out a rich and mighty blessing
Not on his town, or her town, but your town
Are you ready for the message?
I have a special financial blessing that once I have placed in your hand
Then I want you to begin using this blessing on the very first day that you can

And if you are suffering a strange sickness
And someone is blocking up all of your success
You need to see me right away so I can fix this

Signed sincerely
Yours in faith, love and peace
Your friend

Bombing Out

It's a more compelling example of cultural impact
Separating truth from fact
And all for the deadly greenbacks
But I'm gonna put up a fight

Yeah, but that's alright
You're the only one I'm gonna call tonight
You thrill me, if you don't kill me
Cause I been bombing out
I been calling up the house and you're always out
Well, you ask me all kinds of questions
You like to drill me
Yeah, I'm bombing out
Oh, well, I'm bombing out
I'm bombing out
Yes, well, that's alright
You're the only one I'm gonna call tonight, yeah
You thrill me, if you don't kill me first

You're handing out sacrifices for anyone who wants less than more
Or more than less
More or less there's nothing left to sacrifice
Time is tight

But that's alright
You're the only one I'm gonna call tonight
You thrill me if you don't kill me
'Cause I been bombing out
Calling up the house but you're always out
You ask me all kinds of questions
You like to drill me
I'm bombing out
I'm bombing out
I'm bombing out, but that's alright
You're the only one I'm wanna call tonight, yeah
You thrill me, if you don't kill me first

You are the unmoved mover
And I keep moving along
You are the unmoved mover
And I just keep moving along
I was born by the river
And just like that river I'm gonna keep moving along
And you are the unmoved mover
I will keep singing my song that's right

Yeah, that's alright
You're the only one I'm gonna call tonight, yeah
You thrill me if you don't kill me
But I been bombing out
I been bombing out
I been bombing out
I been bombing out

What's the Rumpus?

Well, when I feel frustration coming as I hear them call his name
Like they did so long ago
It feels just like his reputation is back on the line again
It doesn't matter who you know
I made a promise that my love for him was honest
It's not out of context, our love is not a contest

I've got a feeling that the truth's become opinion these days
That train has left the station but our love will grow
It's floor to ceiling, unappealing, but who cares what they say
'Cause it doesn't matter who it only matters what you know

I hear the song back on the radio again just yesterday
"Voodoo woman," Simon says
It won't be long before my stereo breaks 100,000 plays
I'll bring back Sansui from the dead

I've got a feeling that the truth's become opinion these days
That train has left the station but our love will grow
It's floor to ceiling, unappealing, but who cares what they say
'Cause it doesn't matter who, it only matters what you know

What's the rumpus? (What's the rumpus?)
When will the label dump us? (When will the label dump us?)
They tried to stump us, now what genre will they lump us? (They tried to stump us)

I've got a feeling that the truth's become opinion these days
That train has left the station but our love will grow
It's floor to ceiling, unappealing, but who cares what they say
'Cause it doesn't matter who, it only matters what you know

Tonight (Was a Long Time Ago)

One, two, three, four

Sometimes it's over before it begins
And you feel all those needles and pins
And before I confess all I know
Feels like tonight was a long time ago

She's flicking the light up on the stairs
The signal she's finally there
You have to go now, before they come home
Tonight was a long time ago

Well, a pain's been released from my core
And I feel better than ever before, yeah
And just when she opened the door
I thought, "Tonight was a long time ago"

She's flicking the light up on the stairs
The signal she's finally there
You have to go now, before they come home
Tonight was a long time ago
Yeah

She's flicking the light up on the stairs
The signal she's finally here
You have to go now, before they come home
Tonight was a long time ago

It's deja vu all over again
The memories are my medicine
And the fatigue is frightening, well
Sometimes it's over before it begins
Sometimes it's over before it begins
Sometimes it's over before it begins
Sometimes it's over before it begins

Tonight was a long time ago
And now there's ten thousand feet on the floor
And right after I played all I know
I thought, "Tonight was a long time ago"

She's flicking the light, up on the stairs
The signal she's finally here
You have to go now, before they come home
'Cause tonight was a long time ago
Oh, oh, oh

Underground

Woo

What's in the sky, comes from the sea
If you see what I mean, what I mean
The people feel they're under siege
From what they can't believe
From what they can't believe, yeah

And I wanna go where you go
Underground, yeah
And I wanna know what you know
What's underground
What's underground

All that I see, I can't repeat
When there's no one else around
No one else around
You can't be free if you can't defeat
What's living underground
What's living underground

And I wanna go where you go
Underground yeah
And I wanna know what you know
What's underground

I said I wanna go where you go
Underground, yeah
And I wanna know what you know
What's underground
What's underground
Woo
What's underground

Number One With a Bullet

If you're feeling lucky and you're ready to roll
Maybe I can help you
On the ceiling above you is a piece of a soul
You can help yourself to

I've got information
Hanging by a thread
So why don't you pull it?
It's an assassination of the already dead
Number one with a bullet
But the reputation of a rotten apple
Is too loud to hear now
Now both Adam and Eve know they're naked
So we all having something to fear now

If you lost your keys or your way
Maybe I can help you find it
I've been down on my knees and I pray
For the guidance, and I don't mind it
I can teach you the way
So that you can try to teach yourself now
If man can learn to fish in a day
Then he can learn to fish himself out

I've got information
Hanging by a thread
So why don't you pull it?
It's an assassination of the already dead
Number one with a bullet
But the reputation of a rotten apple
Is too loud to hear now
Now both Adam and Eve know they're naked
So we all having something to fear now

I've got information
Hanging by a thread
So why don't you pull it?

Now both Adam and Eve know they're naked

Morning at Midnight

You know it's morning at midnight
But there ain't no sun
So what you need to do
Well, you'd better get done, yeah

There's not many around now
The bar is emptied out
I can hear a sound now
A whisper is a shout

Do you want to go for a walk?
A walk with me to nowhere

'Cause it's morning at midnight
But there ain't no sun
So what you need to do?
Well, you'd better get done
Before the rays light up
And the birds come alive
And everybody wakes up
And people start to arrive
They're coming alive

Oh, yeah
Oh, yeah
Oh, yeah

Walking through the morning
Stuttering and stalling
Catch me when I'm falling
Oh, yeah
Before the sun is rising
The silence is surprising
Walk with me tonight then
Oh, yeah

Do you want to go for walk with me to nowhere?

You know it's morning at midnight
But there ain't no sun
So what you need to do?
Well, you'd better get done
Before the rays light up
And the birds come alive
And everybody wakes up, hey
And people start to arrive
They're coming alive

Missionary

Yeah

I'm backseat driving when you're driving me crazy
But I can't drive a stick
I'm getting used to hearing my name
It's no longer making me feel sick
It's like a California vibration
It must be sweeping the nation
It's like a new sensation

I'm on a mission, baby
I'm like a missionary
Put me in that position
And I'll make you miss me again
I'll make you miss me again

No cap, practical perspective
I'm skeptical of anything
I'll find myself a new directive
And it's gonna surround you like a boxing ring
I'm hitting you from every angle
I'm not begging you on bended knee
I'm not taking anything for granted
I'm gonna grow on you like an apple seed
I'm everything that you need

I'm an affection addict
But I'm getting better at it
I'm living in your attic
But I will not be there for long
'Cause I got a brand new song
Sing it

I'm a backdoor slammer
Metal hammer
Coming down on what I need to nail
Woo, woo
I'm gonna make you miss me
Make you miss me again
I'll make you miss me again

I'm on a mission, baby
I'm like a missionary
Put me in that position
And I'll make you miss me again
Will you ever miss me again?

Terminal Archenemy Endling

How do you feel if you felt it all now?
From camomile to cannonball?
And how do you see when you've seen it all now?
From falling water to waterfall?

I thought I knew it all, I thought I knew everything
Yeah, that I would never fall, fall for anything
At all

What can you hear at the break of dawn, girl
From red breasted raven to feeble fawn?
And what can you sense, when I make no sense at all, girl
From morning scream to sleepy yawn?

When I hear your call, it feels like coming home
Oh, yeah
Like I'm ten feet tall, and younger than anyone
At all

Where would I be if I didn't know you
From a factory to a country home?
And what would I have if I never really had you?
What's the point of being free if I'm all alone?
Yeah

I thought I knew it all, I thought I knew everything
Alright
Thought I would never fall, fall for anything
At all

How do you feel when you felt it all now?
And how do you see when you've seen it all?

No Name is the sixth studio album by American rock musician Jack White, first released on July 19, 2024, through Third Man Records. The album was initially a surprise, one-day-only vinyl release that was included with all purchases at Third Man Records store locations in Detroit, London, and Nashville.

The vinyl itself was released completely unmarked, aside from "NO NAME" stamped on its white label, in a generic white sleeve.

No Name earned a wide release on August 2, 2024. Though its release structure resulted it in being White's least commercially successful album, it nonetheless received widespread acclaim from critics. Many considered it to be White's best solo album, highlighting the album's raw and heavy sound and likening it to the trademark sound of the White Stripes, White's previous band.
