Jackson Hogan - Revolution Rednecks Lyrics
Official

Years ago, in the age of coal
Virginia mines ran deeper than they should
Tempting fate with workers' blood
Soon enough, disaster struck
Three hundred men were buried in the dirt
Their bodies frail with overwork
When miners tried to unionize
The owners kicked their families to the cold
And shipped in more to feed the coal
In Matewan, it came to guns
When Baldwins tried to jail the sheriff, Sid
He sent them back with seven dead
They scurried to McDowell
And played the pity pipes
Accused the miners' hero
Of murder by design
Well, Sheriff Sid was ready
To stand before the law
But when he reached the courthouse
They shot him in the door
Step right in
And hear the story
Mountain men
Who died in glory
Go ahead and fact check
The Revolution Rednecks
Red bandanas
Tied together
Desperate men
Of every feather
Go ahead and fact check
The Revolution Redneck war
When news arrived of Sid's demise
The strikers' camps were waiting for a spark
Ten thousand men began to march
The miners' call welcomed all
They didn't fear the color of your skin
In red bandanas, all were kin
They made for bloody Mingo
Where workers sat in jail
But first they had to tango
With water in the trail
For Sheriff Don of Logan
And Baldwin's hired horde
Were waiting at Blair Mountain
And thirsty for a war
Step right in
And hear the story
Mountain men
Who died in glory
Go ahead and fact check
The Revolution Rednecks
Red bandanas
Tied together
Desperate men
Of every feather
Go ahead and fact check
The Revolution Redneck war
Well, Sheriff Don had planes and bombs
But miners fought for basic human rights
And they'd been striking all their life
Despite the odds, the workers brought
Their rivals to the doorstep of defeat
With Logan City in their reach
Just before their triumph
Federal troops arrived
Sent from places high up
Where money drew the lines
When strikers left the mountain
A hundred lay behind
Those who live in Logan
Remember why they died
Step right in
And hear the story
Mountain men
Who died in glory
Go ahead and fact check
The Revolution Rednecks
Red bandanas
Tied together
Desperate men
Of every feather
Go ahead and fact check
The Revolution Rednecks
Step right in
And hear the story
Mountain men
Who died in glory
Go ahead and fact check
The revolution rednecks
Red bandanas
Tied together
Desperate men
Of every feather
Go ahead and fact check
The Revolution Redneck war
