The screen door shuts; it's quiet next door
I see your light go out just like before
You're carrying a weight I'll never quite know
But your eyes tell stories the darkness won't show
I can't reach across this old backyard line
But I know a love that's stronger than mine
"Love your neighbor as yourself" Jesus said
So I hit my knees beside my bed
I'm asking Him to heal what I can't mend
To bring you peace and strength again
On the other side of the fence
Jesus moves where my hands end
A pie on the porch a wave from the drive
It's all I can give but it keeps hope alive
Sometimes it feels like my prayers hit the wall
But I trust His love to reach through it all
These little things they're all I can bring
But His grace turns whispers into mighty things
"Love your neighbor as yourself" Jesus said
So I hit my knees beside my bed
I'm asking Him to heal what I can't mend
To bring you peace and strength again
On the other side of the fence
Jesus moves where my hands end
One day you told me you felt something change
A peace that filled the hurt and the pain
I smiled because I knew right then
It was His love breaking in
"Love your neighbor as yourself" Jesus said
So I hit my knees beside my bed
I'm asking Him to heal what I can't mend
To bring you peace and strength again
On the other side of the fence
Jesus moves where my hands end
I'll keep loving praying and holding on
Trusting Jesus all along
