Jeff - Daddy's Ice Cream (feat. Bill Stephens) Lyrics

[ Featuring Deb Conrad ]

It's with fondness I remember
Summer evenings as a child
We'd pile in our Ford woodie
And we'd head out for a drive
We'd roll down all the windows
So the wind blew through our hair
How I miss those sounds of summer
When we were young without a care

As we headed home, excitement reigned
In a spirited condition
We knew where we were headed
It was our family tradition
We'd stop for cones of soft serve
From the local Dairy Queen
And then we'd make one final stop
To pick up daddy's Ice Cream

Daddy's Ice Cream wasn't frozen
It came in a paper bag
And he couldn't wait till he got home
So he could pour himself a glass
We were young and didn't know much
But near as I could see
Our daddy's favorite Ice Cream shop
Looked just like a liquor store to me

Daddy really liked his ice cream
And he drank some every night
And sometimes he'd have seconds
When he was especially uptight
We kids could be a handful
And it was easier, it seamed
To deal with our rambunctiousness
After drinking his Ice Cream

Daddy's Ice Cream wasn't frozen
It came in a paper bag
And he couldn't wait till he got home
So he could pour himself a glass
We were young and didn't know much
But near as I could see
Our daddy's favorite Ice Cream shop
Looked just like a liquor store to me

As I grew into adulthood
And had children of my own
I was saddened when I got the news
That our daddy had passed on
As we were leaving from the funeral
I was grabbed by brother Gene
And we laughed and made one final toast
With daddy's Ice Cream

Daddy's Ice Cream wasn't frozen
It came in a paper bag
And he couldn't wait till he got home
So he could pour himself a glass
We were young and didn't know much
But near as I could see
Our daddy's favorite Ice Cream shop
Looked just like a liquor store to me
Yes, our daddy's favorite Ice Cream shop
Looked just like a liquor store to me
