jeremyinpost - On Brand Lyrics

(Slip down to the creek on broken bottles shimmering grey
Arms at my sides, I'm speaking softly, come what may
Haven't had much to do with quiet here lately
Hasn't been any hope for a sun dance, maybe
Happy just to take a beat and feel no deep longing
Satisfied to sit and watch the day's night come to be
A blue arrow forming on the water glistens and draws me
And the world is all but muted as it comes apart)

Dangling in the unclear shadow of heaven's urges
Make an uneducated guess at the shape of evil
It invites you to come and have your fun for free
And pities attempts to mark the loss of sacred heart

Somewhere north of nowhere slides a hungry serpent
Bent on leveling and battering his way through the malaise
We've eaten rich and done our best to absorb ourselves
In the refreshing cool of shallow brains and sickening boxes

Slippery skin, red eyes, and heavy movements
Garnish the spindly sides of our favorite subject
Pulling faith to reverence in a half-measure
Levitating faithfully on a nomad reassured

Earth's breath is a wandering curse, I'm certain
Drying the taste of the brittle bodies within
Making boring peace with the taste of heaven's border
Half-drunk and dancing with the patience of a full moon glow

No one really understands the architecture
But they're drawing plans and placing labels
Trying to represent monuments forgotten
And scattered ashes fill the empty spaces

The snake collides with every broken aspect
Of this understanding of our unexplored backyard
On its search for bigger portions of pets and lost pieces
Belonging to no home but the ones it takes away

So we focus on rebuilding a reckless delusion
That no evil will ever sleep in the garden overgrown
We steep our tea and meditate in chains unbroken
Tightening our blindfolds to prepare for armageddon

If life is a wandering illness draped over empty vessels
And prophecy is a reason for the empire to sleep still
We all must lie and wait to reap our judgment worthy
And the peace we keep will make no sense to others

And when the monsters finally rear their heads and tell us
That simple living would have outshined any reason, any system
We'll sleep understanding in the grasp of happy stomachs
Of the proud and lonely shapes that never wondered
