I've been thinking how does rapping fit in my life?
How do I balance my kids, ministry and my wife?
And still have time for the studio and mic?
Maybe its time to close the curtains turn off the lights
I wrestle with the thought of retiring
Writer's block hits me hard I find nothing inspiring
Hip hop is too much dancing man shots firing
Not many mc's out that I'm admiring
Nobody goes off the top anymore
Freestyle is a lost art that I fight to keep at the core
Now it's all pre-written but they claim its improvised spitting
A culture imprisoned a land so far from the living
I've seen many trends come... and then they go
I've seen double-time rhymes turn to chopped and slowed
Hip hop has changed and I feel I've missed the boat
Surviving in these waters doing the dead man's float
Forever I'm a husband, father and son
Lover of hip hop a brother to one
Forever I'm an mc whether I stay or retire
Til' forever I'll represent the Messiah!
This world is a place full of temporary things
Broken kingdoms run by broken kings
These broken things that people love to cling to
I hold tight to the Lord and His eternal truths
Whether I'm preaching in the pulpit or spit in the booth
The love of God is something I will never lose
These seasons come then soon they fade
One thing that remains is the ancient of days
I'm His child whether I rap or not
Reconciled to my Father ya I'm blood-bought
You can't separate us whether you like it or not
Three cords tied tight in this forever knot
I can't ever put down the banner of Christ
Can't stop sing Hosanna man He gave me my life
Can't water down bars when I'm on this mic
I'm forever loved by Jesus all day and night
So go ahead and say I can't rap anymore
That age decides when I should walk out of this door
Go ahead and say I'm all washed up and old school
I'll rep the roots of hip hop all day to these fools
They sit on thrones of decay and rap about getting paid
Sickness from their lips, they're digging their own graves
It's why when I write I rep the one who saves
The king of kings, the lion with His eyes ablaze
So step out of that dark walk out of your chains
Praise the one who reigns whether it shines or rains
He takes your shame and can heal your pain
Gaining fame is like wearing real rocks and chains
My identity is not found in what I do
Trials by fire He has always seen me through
See the lessons of life in every scar and bruise
How can I not praise the one whose fore
