The Bells
He was a champion in his prime
With absolution on his mind
To most misfortune he was blind
Let slide the clanging bells of time
The murmur and the malcontent
Too much for him to comprehend
He had no reason to pretend
The bells would save him in the end
He paved the way the best he could
He learned and soon he understood
To take a chance and make it good
With cap and bells knocking on wood
Fall to his call in the first light
He kept in mind what's been done right
He's got his ears closed Up So tight
No bells will ring for him tonight
A traveler through hail and rain
Through troublesome and tough terrain
It nearly made him go insane
To listen for the bells in vain
