Kelly Clarkson - Meaning of Life Album Lyrics

Kelly Clarkson - Meaning of Life Lyrics

A Minute (Intro)

You're going crazy
Running on empty
You can't make up your mind
You try to hide it
But you had to say it
Restless all this time
So completely drained from everything that's in your life
It's so wrong but you had to scream every thought you kept inside

One minute you laugh
The next minute you're slowly sinking into something black
I get the feeling that lately nothing ever really lasts
I keep trying to get up but I keep falling back
And you love
And you hate
And you wait
'Cause one minute goes fast

You just can't escape it
You're losing patience
You wonder what went wrong
Everything changes
Happy then jaded
Always a different song
Playin' in your head just when you think you got it down
Out of nowhere you realize it's different music playing now

One minute you laugh
The next minute you're slowly sinking into something black
I get the feeling that lately nothing ever really lasts
I keep trying to get up but I keep falling back
And you love
And you hate
And you wait
'Cause one minute goes fast

One minute goes fast
One minute goes fast

One minute you laugh
The next minute you're slowly sinking into something black
I get the feeling that lately nothing ever really lasts
I keep trying to get up but I keep falling back
And you love
And you hate
And you wait
'Cause one minute goes
One minute goes
One minute goes fast

Love So Soft

Yeah
Every kiss is a door
Can I knock on yours?
Can we knock a little more?
If your touch is a key
Keep on twistin', keep unlockin', keep on turnin' me

Let me in
I wanna be closer to you, let you under my skin
If I let you in
You gotta be careful with it
Let me tell you again, hey

Love so soft, you ain't had nothing softer
Break it, then you buy it and it sure gonna cost ya
Love so soft that you can't rub off
You gon' love it if you try it
Got you hooked, now you're caught up
Love so soft, so soft (so soft)
Love so soft, so soft (so soft)

If a thought was the truth
We'd be doin' all the kinds of things I know you wanna do
But I need, need to know (need to know)
Will you protect me, respect me if I let you close?

Let (oh, let) me in (let me in, let me in)
I wanna be closer to you, let you under my skin
If I let (if I let) you in (let you in, let you in)
You gotta be careful with it
Let me tell you again, hey

Love so soft, you ain't had nothing softer
Break it, then you buy it and it sure gonna cost ya
Love so soft that you can't rub off
You gon' love it if you try it
Got you hooked, now you're caught up
Love so soft, so soft (so soft)
Love so soft, so soft (so soft)

If you want this love, gotta hold it tight
Never let it go, baby, let it give you life (give you life)
If you want this love, gotta hold it tight
Never let it go, baby, let it give you life

Love so soft, you ain't had nothing softer (you ain't had, you ain't had)
Break it, then you buy it and it sure gonna cost ya
Love so soft that you can't rub off
You gon' love it if you try it
Got you hooked, now you're caught up

If you want this love (if you want), gotta hold it tight (if you want)
Never let it go, baby, no (love so soft, so soft)
(Love so soft, so soft)
Love so soft (love so soft, love so soft), oh oh
If you want this love, gotta hold it tight
Never let it go, baby (love so soft, love so soft)
Love, love, love, love
Love, love, love, love
If you want it, baby (so soft, yeah)

Heat

I'm stumblin' through the darkness
There ain't no sign of a spark here
I'm used to feelin' that fire
You watered down that desire
I put my work in, day in, day out
Baby I deserve it, don't let me down
You used to make me feel like a diamond
Now it don't even seem like you're tryin'
So give me one good reason that I should need you

(Oh, whoa, oh)
Come turn this around
(Oh, whoa, oh)
No, no, don't let us down
I need more heat from ya, baby
Make me feel weak for ya, babe
(Oh, whoa, oh)
And I feel alive
(Oh, whoa, oh)
Like my heart's in the wild
I need more heat from ya, baby
Make me feel weak for ya, babe

I'm slippin' out of your fingers
Keep coolin' down like November
I'm used to feelin' that fever
I wanna dive in you deeper
I put that work in, day in, day out
Baby I deserve it, don't let me down, no
Give me one good reason that I should need you

(Oh, whoa, oh)
Come turn this around
(Oh, whoa, oh)
No, no, don't let us down
I need more heat from ya, baby
Make me feel weak for ya, babe
(Oh, whoa, oh)
And I feel alive
(Oh, whoa, oh)
Like my heart's in the wild
I need more heat from ya, baby
Make me feel weak for ya, babe

Better than that
Better than that
You know I love you
Better than that
Better than that
So come on love me
Better than that
Better than that
Oh we can do so much
Better than that
Better than that

(Oh, whoa, oh)
Come turn this around
(Oh, whoa, oh)
No, no, don't let us down
I need more heat from ya, baby
Make me feel weak for ya, babe
(Oh, whoa, oh)
And I feel alive
(Oh, whoa, oh)
Like my heart's in the wild
I need more heat from ya, baby
Make me feel weak for ya, babe

Better than that
Better than that
You know I love you
Better than that
Better than that
So come on love me
Better than that
Better than that
Oh we can do so much
Better than that
Better than that

Better than that
Better than that
You know I love you
Better than that
Better than that
So come on love me
Better than that
Better than that
Oh we can do so much
Better than that
Better than that

Meaning of Life

Baby, I've been living in the dark
The only friend I've got here is my broken heart
Feeling like I've finally had enough
Living like an animal can be so rough

I've been waiting so long for you to come my way
And now I, I can't wait another day

When you hold me, I finally see
When you say love, I know what it means
I was broke down so long in the dark
Until you showed me the light (baby)
'Cause when you kiss me, I know who I am
And when you let me feel it I understand
When I'm lost I just look in your eyes
You show me the meaning of life
Meaning of life, life, life, life
You show me the meaning of life
Meaning of life, life, life, life
You show me the meaning of life

Every time I spend a lonely night, yeah
Thinking I won't make it 'til the morning light
All I do is think of you and I (you and I)
Suddenly the wrongs they start to feel so right

I've been waiting so long for you to come my way (come my way, yeah)
And now I, I can't wait another day

When you hold me, I finally see
When you say love, I know what it means
I was broke down so long in the dark
Until you showed me the light
'Cause when you kiss me, I know who I am
And when you let me feel it, I understand
When I'm lost I just look in your eyes
You show me the meaning of life
Meaning of life, life, life, life
You show me the meaning of life
Meaning of life, life, life, life
Show me the meaning of life

You show me love
You lift me up
You take me higher and higher
The truth is I'm in love
Can you feel us, we're flying higher
Oh, you show me love
You lift me up
You take me higher and higher
The truth is I'm in love
Can you feel us, we're flying higher

Meaning of life, life, life, life
You show me the meaning of life
Meaning of life, life, life, life
Show me the meaning of life
Show me the meaning of life
Show me the meaning of life

Move You

Like a montage in a movie, right before the hero dies
Like the first time that you listen to your favorite singer live
Like an echo in a canyon
Like tears, but you're not sad
Like a sunrise on a mountain
I wanna move you like that

(Oh, oh)
Oh, I wanna move you like that (oh, oh)

Like a symphony at sundown, in the middle of July
When a lyric really gets you and it breaks you down inside
Like the home that you were raised in
Like faded photographs
Like the thrill of Christmas morning
Yeah, I wanna move you like that

(Oh, oh)
Oh, I wanna move you like that (oh, oh)

Like a solemn Hallelujah
Like a choir shouts amen (amen)
Like your first time falling in love on a stairway up to heaven
Like a soldier who is falling as he holds his country's flag
And he fights for freedom's calling
I wanna move you like that

(Oh, oh)
Oh, I wanna move you like that (oh, oh)
I wanna move you like that (oh, oh)
Oh, like that, oh (oh, oh)
I wanna move you like that (like that)
(Oh, oh)
(I wanna move you)

Like an endless fire burning
Like a hope that fuels the light
Like the hands that simply hold you, when words can't make it right
Like the first time that I met you, I fell so hard, so fast
Like that montage in a movie
Mmm, the way you move me
I wanna move you like that

Whole Lotta Woman

You ain't know? Texas women do it bigger
(What? Say it ain't so)
In the south, it don't get realer, baby
Pot full of grits, I'm hotter than your mama's supper, boy
Better get with it
Better watch your mouth, I might burn you, boy
You goin', uh, downtown, gonna work
Good love I deserve
If you're scared, go to church
Woo-woo! I'm a lover
Hold on tight, little country boy
I ain't no girl, I'm a boss with orders
All I'm needin' is a baby love me
Like a warm biscuit on a Sunday morning

I got what you want, I'm aiming to please
I got what it takes, I sure got the means
I got what you want, sugar, honey, iced tea
All eyes on me, oh, oh, baby

I'm a whole lotta woman
(From the way I walk and toss my hips)
I'm a whole lotta woman
(From the sound to my voice to the gloss on my lips)
I'm a whole lotta woman
(Anything I see I want, I get)
I'm a strong, badass chick with class and confidence, yeah

One time for the green
And rolling like Tina
Loving heart ain't easy
Whoo-whoo, if you mean it
Hold on tight, little country boy
I ain't no girl, I'm a boss with orders
All I'm needin' is a baby love me
Like a warm biscuit on a Sunday morning

I got what you want, I'm aiming to please
I got what it takes, I sure got the means
I got what you want, sugar, honey, iced tea
All eyes on me, oh, oh, baby

I'm a whole lotta woman
(From the way I walk and toss my hips)
I said I'm a whole lotta woman
(From the sound to my voice to the gloss on my lips)
I'm a whole lotta woman
(Anything I see I want, I get)
I'm a strong, badass chick with class and confidence

Ain't no competition, babe
It's just can you keep up with me?
I can't do a thing about my wicked ways with gravity
Higher than the leaves, they fall from trees like D-O-double-Gs
I reside in Tennessee, but Texas still flows deep in me

I'm a whole lotta woman
(From the way I walk and toss my hips)
I'm a whole lotta woman
(From the sound to my voice to the gloss on my lips)
I said I'm a whole lotta woman
(Anything I see I want, I get)
I'm a strong, badass chick with class and confidence

Medicine

Bet you won't like to hear that
Since we've been over got that stress off my back
I'm living my life like a celebration
Changed up my vision like a revelation
You gave me fever love but too much drama
And I ain't even worried 'bout it 'cause I'm too far gone now
Far gone now, oh yeah

I ain't even thinkin' 'bout you
I ain't even thinkin' 'bout you
Don't talk about ya
Almost forgot about you
Said I ain't even thinkin' 'bout you
I ain't even thinkin' 'bout you
Don't talk about ya
Almost forgot about you

So watch out
'Cause your love's not allowed
Your touch don't heal now
I'm good
And I know without it I'm strong
Can't hold me down long
I'm not bothered anymore

You can't get me high
Never got me lit
Never bring me up
Always drag me down
I'm through with it
You ain't my medicine

I gave you plenty chances
To hear my soul but you just caused more damage
How does it feel to know I'm better off without you playin'
Games around my head a thousand times
I almost damn near lost my mind

I ain't even thinkin' 'bout you
I ain't even thinkin' 'bout you
Don't talk about ya
Almost forgot about you
I ain't even thinkin' 'bout you
I ain't even thinkin' 'bout you
Don't talk about ya
Almost forgot about you

So watch out
'Cause your love's not allowed
Your touch don't heal now
I'm good
And I know without it I'm strong
Can't hold me down long
I'm not bothered anymore

You can't get me high
Never got me lit
Never bring me up
Always drag me down
I'm through with it
You ain't my medicine
Like damn
Always felt so cold
Always felt so cold
Had to let that go
I'm better on my own
You ain't my medicine

(You ain't my med, you ain't my med, you ain't my medicine)
(You ain't my med, you ain't my med, you ain't my medicine)

You ain't my med, you ain't my med, you ain't my medicine
You ain't my med, you ain't my med, you ain't my medicine

So watch out
'Cause your love's not allowed
Your touch don't heal now
I'm good
And I know without it I'm strong
Can't hold me down long
I'm not bothered anymore

You can't get me high
Never got me lit
Never bring me up
Always drag me down

Cruel

Am I suppose to close my eyes and fall asleep when you're not home?
Cause I wanna believe you, but I wonder if you're all alone
These nights (these nights)
They take forever long
And I can't breathe, I'm tired (I'm tired)
If I could do the things you do to me

You wouldn't like that
No, no, no, you wouldn't like that
Runnin' round 1, 2, 3 clock in the mornin'
Hey, hey, you better believe me, loving you ain't easy
I'm halfway to losing my mind

Don't be cruel
It's takin' all of me to love someone like you
Don't be cruel
It's takin' all of me to love someone like you

Trying to see a side of things, but you've been playing so unfair
Talking like you love me, but then go like you just don't care
Look out, I come swinging around
Can't keep me down
I love you, but I'm losing myself, in this run around

Am I being jealous?
Are you being selfish?
Runnin' round 1, 2, 3 clock in the mornin'
You better believe me, loving you ain't easy
I'm halfway to losing my mind

Don't be cruel
It's takin' all of me to love someone like you, you
Don't be cruel
It's takin' all of me to love someone like you
Don't be cruel, baby (don't be cruel)
Don't be cruel

Don't be no
Don't be, no
Don't be
Don't be

Don't be cruel
It's takin' all of me to love someone like you
Don't be cruel
It's takin' all of me to love someone like you

You're being so cruel

Didnt I

Remember, not long ago
You call me hysterical
I finally figured us out
My fire was hot enough
To burn on for the both of us
You water keeps putting us out

And I should be steam
The way you love to rain over me
Then turn around and call me your queen
Too blind to see, the way it stings
The pain it brings

Didn't I give you everything?
I gave you everything, baby (baby)
Baby, didn't I?
Didn't I give you everything?
You got the best of me, baby (baby)
Baby, didn't I?
Here you crying on my shoulder
Beg and hold me 'til it's over
When you're lonely, just remember
I gave you everything
D-d-didn't I?

I'm over this tug of war
I told you so many times before
Now I'm finally letting go of the rope, yeah
Well this game is too ugly, boy
And these hands are tired from keeping you up
And my heart hurts from holding out hope

And I can't stay clean, with all the dirt you're throwing at me
Then turn around and call me your queen
Too blind to see, the way it stings
All the pain it brings

Didn't I give you everything?
I gave you everything, baby (baby)
Baby, didn't I?
Didn't I give you everything?
You got the best of me, baby (baby)
Baby, didn't I?
Here you crying on my shoulder
Beg and hold me 'til it's over
When you're lonely, just remember
I gave you everything
D-d-didn't I?

Oh, yeah
Didn't I, didn't I?
Didn't I give you everything? (baby)
Didn't I, didn't I, didn't?

Didn't I give you everything?
I gave you everything, baby (baby)
Didn't I?
Didn't I give you everything?
You got the best of me, baby (baby)
Didn't I?
Here you crying on my shoulder
Beg and hold me 'til it's over
When you're lonely, just remember
I gave you everything
D-d-didn't I?

Ooh
Didn't I, didn't I?
Didn't I give you everything, baby?
Didn't I, didn't I?

Would You Call That Love

Hows life on that mountain you've been climbin' baby
Is it what you thought you wanted, what you were needin'
How's life in that rear view, that mirror you don't mention
Is it hard seein' how you were and what you're becoming

When you look back on love do you think of us?
When it's all said and done is it all enough?
When you weigh the loss to all you've gained, tell me does it all add up?
When you look back on us, would you call that love?
Would you, would you call that love?
Would you, would you call that love?

How's life in that fast lane, that pavement you've been chasin'
Is it all greener without me or is something missin'
How's life with that feelin', that loneliness you're hidin'
Is it hard thinkin' about me, all that you were given

When you look back on love do you think of us?
When it's all said and done is it all enough?
When you weigh the loss to all you've gained, tell me does it all add up?
When you look back on us, would you call that love?
Would you, would you call that love?
Would you, would you call that love?

We can't go back
We can't undo what's done
A place to rest your head, I hope you find one
I forgive as you forget too much
When you look back on us, would you call that love?

When you look back on love, do you think of us?
When it's all said and done is it all enough?
When you weigh the loss to all you've gained, tell me does it all add up
When you look back on us, would you call that love?
(No) Would you, would you call that love?
(No) Would you, would you call that love?
Would you, would you call that love?
Would you, would you call that love?

I Dont Think About You

When you're lost in the moment
You can't see where you going
I didn't who I could trust
So I put all my faith in us
Oh, you tore me to pieces
Turned my strength into weakness
I didn't want it all to fall apart
So I decided just to play the part

But honestly, I do it all again
Putting up with all the bullshit, he made me strong enough to do this

It used to bother me
Thought I could never leave?
After all that I've been through, nothin' left to prove
No, no, no, I don't think about you
Weighin' down on me
I lost my sanity
And now that we are through
Nothin' left to lose
No, no, no, I don't think about you

I feel freedom where I stand now
And I feel proud from who I am now
Yeah, I learned a lot along the way
I love the woman that I became

I was patient, but not anymore
He's back in my hands
And you swore I'll never do it
But it's your turn to face the music

It used to bother me
Thought I could never leave?
After all that I've been through, nothin' left to prove
No, no, no, I don't think about you
Weighin' down on me
I lost my sanity
And now that we are through
Nothin' left to lose
No, no, no, I don't think about you

It was hard to hold on
Days and nights I thought I'd never make at all
Couldn't make it at all
Now I stand tall
Feeling like myself again, no worries at all
Breathe
No one can stop me from livin' this moment for me
I found my heartbeat
After all that I've been through
No, I don't think about you

It used to bother me (it used to bother me)
Thought I could never leave? (Thought I could never leave?)
After all that I've been through (through) nothin' left to prove (prove)

Slow Dance

You're tall, dark and handsome
You're charming and then some
Know how to romance
I see through it all
You do everything too fast
You move like a whiplash
You're missin' the romance
And I see through it all

How did you go from being a mama's boy to a ladies' man?
I'm not goin' home with you tonight
But you can hold my hand
And we can take it slow and
I can show you how to slow dance
We can take it slow and
I can show you how to slow dance

You're so unassuming
You know what you're doin'
You're lookin' right through me
And you don't realize
I just see a scared boy
Who's lookin' for new toys
Just tryin' to fill a void and you don't realize and

How did you go from being a mama's boy to a ladies' man?
I'm not goin' home with you tonight
But you can hold my hand
And we can take it slow and
I can show you how to slow dance
We can take it slow and
I can show you how to slow dance

How did you go from being a mama's boy to a ladies' man?

We can take it slow and

Dont You Pretend

Don't you pretend that you don't need a little more from me
You're actin' like it's nothin'
We both know it's somethin'
Even in the dark everyone can see

So don't you pretend that you're not wishin' I was next to you
Hot and cold as ever, want me but you never
Let your guard down and I need some proof

You make me want, you
But you don't know where this ends
Baby I wanna love you
But I can't take the suspense

I said don't you pretend
(I just wanna see who's in front of me, who you tryin' to be)
Don't you pretend
(I just wanna see who's in front of me, who you tryin' to be)
Don't you pretend
(I just wanna see who's in front of me, who you tryin' to be)
Don't you pretend, ooh yeah

Try to deny and be cool as you walk away from me
Steady as you go, but tremblin' in your voice
Shows there's a part of you slowly dyin'
I'm not gonna wait and just play victim to your vanities
I don't have the time babe, tell me that you're mine babe
Why you keepin' your feelings from em

You make me want, you
But you don't know where this ends
Baby I wanna love you
But I can't take the suspense

I said don't you pretend
(I just wanna see who's in front of me, who you tryin' to be)
Don't you pretend
(I just wanna see who's in front of me, who you tryin' to be) (don't you pretend)
Don't you pretend
(I just wanna see who's in front of me, who you tryin' to be) (don't you pretend)
Don't you pretend, ooh yeah

Don't you run and hide
Let's find out tonight
I got a feelin' that you wanna fall
Tell me yes or no
I can't take no more
I want the real thing or nothin' at all

I just wanna see (I just wanna see)
Who you tryin' to be!

I said don't you pretend
(I just wanna see who's in front of me, who you tryin' to be) (don't you pretend)
Don't you pretend
(I just wanna see who's in front of me, who you tryin' to be) (don't you pretend)
Don't you pretend

Go High

It's too much, can't see
It's too much, can't breathe
It's so not for me
Way too much

And I get lonely on the high road
Everywhere that I go
Stand for nothing, fall short
But not me
But I won't give up
I'll keep giving love
Runs through my blood
I'll never give up

Yeah, yeah
When you go low, I go high, I go high, I go high
When you go low, I go high, to get by, to get by
Sometimes (sometimes, sometimes) I don't wanna be nice (nice)
But I try (but I try)
When you go low, I go high

It's all good, move on
It's all good, I'm strong
It's not what I want, what I want

And I get lonely on the high road
Everywhere that I go
Stand for nothing, fall short
But not me
But I won't give up
I'll keep giving love
Runs through my blood
I'll never give up

Yeah, yeah
When you go low, I go high, I go high, I go high
When you go low, I go high, to get by, to get by
Sometimes (sometimes, sometimes) I don't wanna be nice (nice)
But I try (but I try)
When you go low, I go high

High is the point that I see
High is the kite with no strings
High is where I have to be
When you go low, I go high, just to breathe
High is the smoke that you'll blow
High is where you think I can't go
High is the only road
When you go low, I go high, just to breathe

When you go low, I go high (high, high, high)
High
When you go low, I go high, to get by, to get by
When you go low, I go high (high, high, high)
High
When you go low, I go high, to get by, to get by, to get by

But I won't give up (I won't give up)
I'll keep giving love
Runs through my blood (it runs through my blood)
I'll never give up (I'll never give up, never give up)
Never give up, yeah yeah

Yeah, yeah
When you go low, I go high, I go high, I go high
When you go low, I go high, to get by (to get by) to get by
Sometimes (sometimes, sometimes) I don't wanna be nice (nice)
But I try (but I try)
When you go low, I go high

Meaning of Life is the eighth studio album by American pop singer Kelly Clarkson. It was released on October 27, 2017, by Atlantic Records. Executive produced by Clarkson and Craig Kallman, the album is her debut release for the label after completing her recording contract and leaving previous label, RCA Records, which she had signed after winning the first season of American Idol. Weary of the structure of the previous record deal where she was strictly limited to releasing pop music, Clarkson wanted to pursue a different genre—soul and R&B music, which she had previously wanted to make and had only finally found the opportunity to do so after being signed by Kallman to the label.

Meaning of Life is Clarkson's second foray into soul and R&B music, after her debut single "Miss Independent", departing from the predominant pop and pop rock sound established from her previous studio releases and returning to her multi-genre performances on American Idol. Inspired by the music of the 1990s and prominent singers Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, En Vogue and Bonnie Raitt, Clarkson wanted the album to evoke a music similar to the early works of those artists—with the overall goal of emoting a "soulful" spirit. To achieve this, Clarkson commissioned several collaborators—from previous associates Jesse Shatkin, Greg Kurstin, Mozella and Jason Halbert, to new project partners The Monarch, Mick Schultz, Harlœ and James Morrison. The album's tracks share a cohesive theme of interpersonal connections in life, centered on the subjects of love and living the moment.

Meaning of Life received a generally positive response from music critics, who commended Clarkson's newfound confidence and the cohesiveness of the album. Commercially, the record became her eighth consecutive studio album to debut in the top three of the Billboard 200 chart. Three singles were released to promote the album: "Love So Soft", "I Don't Think About You", and "Heat", the first and last of which topped the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart. Meaning of Life received two Grammy Award nominations for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance for "Love So Soft" at the 60th and 61st ceremony. Its supporting concert tour of the same name visited various arenas throughout the United States between January and March 2019.
