Khalid - Sincere Album Lyrics

Khalid - Sincere Lyrics

Adore U

Started on two different pages, I'm happy we made it
You say that you're broken, I'm the one who saves it
Thousand miles apart and god knows that I hate it
Nothing hurts me more than when we're separated

Thousand miles apart and you're still in my heart
Can we take it back? I'm waiting at the start
Fly me to the moon and now I'm seeing stars
When we touch, hmm
Feels like

High, we should just smoke
We should get high, we should just
(Fall into my arms, let me adore you)
High, we should just float
If you can fly, we should just
(Fall into my arms, let me adore you)

I see that look in your eyes
I'll do whatever you like
Sit back and I'll fantasize
Feels like I'm falling for you
I know you don't open up (up)
I wanna fight for your trust (your trust)
Why don't we focus on us?
Baby, I'd die for your love

Thousand miles apart and you're still in my heart (you're still in my heart)
Can we take it back? I'm waiting at the start (waiting at the start)
Fly me to the moon and now I'm seeing stars (oh)
When we touch (touch, touch)
(Feels) feels like

High, we should just smoke
We should get high, we should just
(Fall into my arms, let me adore you)
High, we should just float
If you can fly, we should just (yeah, feels like)
(Fall into my arms, let me adore you)
High, we should just smoke (oh)
We should get high, we should just (yeah)
(Fall into my arms, let me adore you)
High, we should just float (do you trust in me like I do?)
If you can fly, we should just (do you trust in me like I do?)

(Know I do) adore you
(Do you trust in me like I do?)
Just can't help myself (yeah)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah (fly)
(Yeah, oh)

High, we should just smoke
We should get high, we should just (yeah, oh)
(Fall into my arms, let me adore you)
High, we should just float
If you can fly, we should just

(Oh, yeah, yeah)
(Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)

Everything We See

Who says there isn't beauty in everything we see?
For what we share, yeah, it's true
I know you care for me deeply
I know you do

When I'm with you
I can't deny that I feel safer here
But gravity just brings you right back to the atmosphere

So if you'll stay, countin' on me, I'll fight all your demons in the night
Stay, say you won't leave, get in your heart like a parasite
So if you'll stay, countin' on me, I'll fight all your demons in the night
Stay, say you won't leave, get in your heart like a parasite

Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, ah
Yeah, yeah, yeah (yeah)
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah (yeah)
Yeah, yeah, yeah

I have to take a step back and catch my breath and think about it
You're doing what you want in this life, it's only you deciding
I had a minor setback and took some time to analyze it
You got the love inside you and now it's up for you to find it (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)

Yeah, yeah, yeah (yeah)
Yeah, yeah, yeah (oh)
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah (just tell me that you'll here another night)
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah (all night)
Yeah, yeah, yeah

I have to take a step back and catch my breath and think about it
You're doing what you want in this life, it's only you deciding
I had a minor setback and took some time to analyze it
You got the love inside you and now it's up for you to find it

Altitude

I don't wanna say too much or any (say too much)
But I never felt something quite like this (quite like this)
Dip into the night and my eyes are heavy
Try to turn away, but I can't resist (can't resist)
You don't gotta fill my head with lies
Living in the moment 'cause I know what this is
You told me that you'd stay for the night
Left early in the morning like a ghost in the wind

Oh, there's somethin' 'bout you
Has me over the moon
And if I lose your touch
I don't know what I'd do (oh)
The temperature is rising
It's a hundred and two
The pressure's gettin' higher
This altitude

Oh-oh-oh
I think about all the time we had
Oh-oh-oh
Think about all the time we had

2 AM on Ocean Drive (2 AM)
The roof is gone, we're so alive (so alive)
See your face lit by the lights (oh)
They can't show me what's inside (what's inside)
Say you wanna run away from the unknown
Know it's hard to save a soul from a broken home
Only hurts me in the end if I miss your call
Yeah, imprinted in my head like a centerfold

Oh, there's somethin' 'bout you
Has me over the moon
And if I lose your touch
I don't know what I'd do (I don't, oh)
The temperature is rising
It's a hundred and two
And we're just gettin' lifted (gettin' lifted)
Lifted, lifted, lifted (gettin' lifted)

Oh-oh-oh
I think about all the time we had (and we're just gettin' lifted, lifted)
Oh-oh-oh
Think about all the time we had (and we're just gettin' lifted, lifted)

And we're just gettin' lifted, lifted, lifted, lifted
And we're just gettin' lifted, lifted, lifted, lifted
And we're just gettin' lifted, lifted, lifted, lifted
And we're just gettin' lifted, lifted, lifted, lifted

It's All Good

I walked out the front door
You said you didn't want me anymore, you meant that
You said it with your chest
Caught me on a bad day
They say I'll get over the trauma
But there's certain things that you just don't forget

I wish I could burn it all
And light all of your shit on fire
Set the world ablaze just like a cigarette
Underneath the waterfall
That's where I wash away the grievances you can't escape
You're my biggest regret

But it's all good
Yeah, all these years, all these tears
But it's all good
'Cause you'll just sell your dreams to someone who will believe you
And act like it's all good
Yeah, all these years, all these tears
But it's all good
'Cause you'll just sell your dreams to someone who will believe

Almost like I'm done for
I wonder if you even cared at all, you say you did
With your empty words
Always seem to cut me deep
Just like a dagger to my stomach as you watch me bleed
Is this what I deserve?

It's all good
Yeah, all these years, all these tears
But it's all good
'Cause you'll just sell your dreams to someone who will believe you
And act like it's all good
Yeah, all these years, all these tears
But it's all good
'Cause you'll just sell your dreams to someone who will believe

And when you're next to him, touching him
Tell me, do you think of me?
And when you're next to him, touching him
Tell me, do you think of me?
And when you're next to him, touching him
Tell me, do you think of me?
And when you're next to him, touching him
Tell me, do you think of me?

It's all good
Yeah, all these years, all these tears
But it's all good
'Cause you'll just sell your dreams to someone who will believe you
And act like it's all good
Yeah, all these years, all these tears

Broken

Oh
Oh
Oh

'Cause you treat me like my love was just a game
But it's one that both of us can never win
I awoke and you're no longer next to me
Where were you the other night at 10 PM?
No, I never been the one to trace your tracks (tracks)
But I thought I knew you way better than this
The decision that you made, can't take it back
Can't ignore you when there's this much evidence

Why you're leaving me just for him?
How did I lose your love? I'm wondering
Why you're leaving me just for him?
I, I lost your love once again
Don't understand

Oh, I can't go through this
I don't wanna hurt anymore
Oh, I can't go through this
I don't wanna open up that door
Oh, I can't go through this
I don't have another heart to mend
Oh, I can't go through this
I'm broken, I'm broken

I, I lost your love once again
I, I lost your love once again

You're so out of bounds
I'm stuck in denial
Thinking you were down
But you let me down
Where do I turn now?
Someone tell me how
Everywhere I go
You'll still be around
How, how could you do me like that?
Do I know him too?
When I'm not home, is he next to you?
When I'm not home, is he there with you right now?

(I, I lost your love once again)
Whoa
Is he next to you right now?
Right now
He next to you right now? (Oh)
(I, I lost your love once again)
Right now
Is he next to you right now?
(I, I lost your love once again)
Right now
Is he next to you?

(I, I lost your love once again)
(I, I lost your love-)

Dose

Searching for nirvana in a crowded room (oh)
Feels like just us two, sweat like a monsoon
Watching how you move
I know what you're doing, you say you wanna
You wanna get high (high)
All the drugs you'd take if I weren't by your side (take)
I won't let you down, wait 'til you come down

Counting every breath you take
How'd I get here if it's not fate?
And they say drugs are not your friend
That was the first mistake I made
Can't tell what's real or what is fake
And they say drugs are not your friend
They say drugs are not your friend
You take one, now you're in a trance
You feel like you've been born again
Only until you're bored again
You take, you take, you take, you take
Can't tell what's real or what is fake
Can't tell what's real or what is fake

I know that you're craving more
You're wanting more (oh)
Chasing every door (wait 'til you come down)
I know that you're craving more
You're wanting more (oh)
Chasing every door (wait 'til you come down)

High
Higher, higher, higher, higher
High, high (high)
Higher, higher, higher, higher
High (high)

Counting every breath you take (high)
How'd I get here if it's not fate?
And they say drugs are not your friend (yeah, high)
That was the first mistake I made
Can't tell what's real or what is fake
And they say drugs are not your friend (tell me now, can, high)
Counting every breath you take (high)
How'd I get here if it's not fate?
And they say drugs are not your friend (high)
That was the first mistake I made
Can't tell what's real or what is fake
And they say drugs are not your friend

I know that you're craving more (I know)
You're wanting more (more)
Chasing every door (wait 'til you come down)
I know that you're craving more (oh, know that you want more)
You're wanting more (more)
Chasing every door (wait 'til you come down)

Chasing, chasing every door
Wait 'til you come down

Please Don't Fall In Love With Me

I was wondering, maybe, could I make you my baby?
If we do the unthinkable, would it make us look crazy?
If you ask me, I'm ready
If you ask me, I'm ready, I'm ready, I'm ready, I'm ready, I'm rea-

Did you already know him? It's coincidental that he learns your body and mind the way I do
The secrets you told me, were they confidential or do you let anyone inside your mental?
I bet you ain't told him the things that we been through
I know you're not flashin' your wrist like you been doin'
The fact that I actually started to trust you then you broke my heart, someone bring me a tissue
Or maybe my notebook, I'll sharpen my pencil to write you a letter and show you I'm into you
Stay down forever, even if it's pleasure, go 'head
Sign your name on the package I sent to you
Open it up and when you get to cheesin'
I hope that you believe in the end that I got you
How can I move forward when every relationship I get in
Don't hit the same if it ain't you?

So please don't fall in love with me
Don't fall in love with me
Don't fall in love with me
Don't fall in love with me
So please don't fall in love with me (don't fall)
Don't fall in love with me (don't fall)
Don't fall in love with me (don't fall, don't fall)
Don't fall in love with me

Do you still use that Versace bag that I bought you?
Look back at the pics of vacations I brought you on
He can't even match it, he's not in my bracket
You settle for less with him, with me, I put you on
Doesn't look good on you, way too appealin' to go through experiences that he's been givin' you
'Cause you see on this side, I'll drape you with fire
Got bundles of roses lined up to the ceiling
It's so good without you, I know that I'm healin'
But that doesn't change that the way I've been feelin'
Is clouding my judgment, I act like it's nothin' but really I'm sufferin'
I'm way too forgivin'
I saw your new man and he looks like a joke
It's been a while since the both of us spoke
Can't help but think that my life would be better if we never met
But that's not how it goes

So please don't fall in love with me (you can't fall for me)
Don't fall in love with me (you can't fall for me)
Don't fall in love with me (do not fall)
Don't fall in love with me (fall)
So please don't fall in love with me (don't fall)
Don't fall in love with me (don't fall)
Don't fall in love with me (don't fall, don't fall)
Don't fall in love with me

Breathe

[ Featuring Arlo Parks ]

I'm useless, out of my depth
I don't wanna lose myself again
I'm useless, out of my depth
Baby, I need your oxygen (when do I start to feel myself again?)
I'm useless, out of my depth
I don't wanna lose myself again (I'm useless)
I'm useless, out of my depth (need your oxygen)
Baby, I need your oxygen, so breathe

Only 6 AM and I'm out searchin' for morning glory
Many of us make it through the madness to tell our stories
Couple hundred million of us shackled by our depression
No one can escape our fate, the world brings us no exceptions
Even in my bed, I feel afraid when the lights go off
Just my thoughts and I and I been dying to clear my conscience
Like the walls are closing on me, I get so claustrophobic
Open up my eyes, I'm still surrounded by all this darkness
And I know that

I'm useless, out of my depth
I don't wanna lose myself again
I'm useless, out of my depth
Baby, I need your oxygen (when do I start to feel myself again?)
I'm useless, out of my depth
I don't wanna lose myself again (I'm useless)
I'm useless, out of my depth (need your oxygen)
Baby, I need your oxygen, so breathe

Searching through the darkness
For something I could do differently
Something I could do differently
Seven weeks, I've been lost at sea
So cold in my apartment
Feeling my tears start to freeze
Feeling my tears start to freeze
Seven weeks, I've been lost at sea

I'm useless, out of my depth
I don't wanna lose myself again
I'm useless, out of my depth
Baby, I need your oxygen (when do I start to feel myself again?)
I'm useless, out of my depth
I don't wanna lose myself again (I'm useless)
I'm useless, out of my depth (need your oxygen)
Baby, I need your oxygen, so breathe

Ah, ah, ah

Ground

Cotton-candy-colored skies
Even put a smile on my broken muse
Somethin' 'bout the sunset pleases
Me and brings out the best in you
I could stare at you all evenin'
Meltin' into the mountainside
Now I'm focusin' on my breathin'
Wonderin' how I got so high

I'll be right here on the ground
My feet, feet don't fail me now
I'll be right here on the ground
My feet, feet don't fail me now

Only took a gram and a half
Somehow it all got me tessellate
We go out and skate under moonlight
Disappear in the masquerade
Tell me how real you really are
Sayin' we're in some simulation
How to become self-aware?
Everything seems so calculated

I'll be right here on the ground
My feet, feet don't fail me now
I'll be right here on the ground
My feet, feet don't fail me now

And I'm skatin'
Different colorways but the other (?) Stainless
If you fallin' off, then you will remain aimless
Pickin' up the bag with the ones that I came with
See it in your eyes that you wanna be
I can see it in your eyes that it's doin' you damage
Just another night thinkin' how do I manage
Open up the door, wake me up, and I'm landin'
Off the vim, Never had the heart
None of them words got empathy
Need to put the blame on intent
Gotta let go of your resent
When you're gone, the world doesn't starve
No, you won't be the last to leave
Sun is done, another day is spent
But I won't find my clarity

I'll be right here on the ground (I won't find my clarity)
My feet, feet don't fail me now (I won't find my clarity, no)
I'll be right here on the ground (oh)
My feet, feet don't fail me now (mm)

Who's There To Pick Me Up

I'm all alone
I'm all alone
I don't know, I don't know
I don't know how to go about our situation
Unfamiliar with openness in our conversation
I've experienced these casualties, built these walls up through tragedy
Thinking if they get high enough, no one needs to see
Now I know vulnerability has its limitations
If I'm showing you everything, I hope you embrace it
'Cause I don't do that usually, I prepare for the scrutiny
Thinking if you get used to me, you'll be on your way then (oh)
So I guess you must be on your way then
No one's ever gave me any patience (oh)
Don't know how to love, need demonstration, ah

Oh, who's there to clean me up when you're gone? I think I made a mess
Tell me who's there to clear my mind?
You're not around and you're so unimpressed with me

I don't wanna do too much
I don't wanna do too much
I don't wanna do too much
I don't wanna do too much

I confide in you
Would never lie to you
Tell you all my truth
From this point of view
I don't wanna do too much, but you judging me (yeah)
I don't wanna do too much, need you comfortably (yeah, yeah)
You've been on my mind
I don't wanna lose control
I don't wanna let you go
I don't wanna let you go
Happens all the time
I don't wanna let you go
I don't wanna let you go, no

Would you ride for me?
Fight for me? (Whoa)
Never hide from me?
Slide with me? (Oh)
You don't gotta do too much 'cause I'm trusting you, baby
You don't gotta do too much 'cause it's all on you, baby
You've been on my mind, I don't know what to do, yeah
Happens all the time, I don't know what to do, oh

Who's there to clean me up when you're gone? I think I made a mess
Tell me who's there to clear my mind?
You're not around and you're so unimpressed with me (oh yeah)
Who's there to pick me up when you're no longer answering your phone?
Who's there to clean me up? Who's there when I'm all alone?

Oh

When I'm all alone, oh

Tainted

Your heart (so tainted)
Your mind (so tainted)
Your soul (so tainted)
Your eyes (so tainted)
Your heart (so tainted)
Your mind (so tainted)
Your soul (so tainted)
Your eyes (so tainted)

Can we make this work? Can we make amends?
I don't wanna fight, no more argument
Heard it, word of mouth, tell me where you been
You don't gotta lie, say he was just a friend

I just can't choose how to believe
You, that's the hardest part
I, I barely eat, I barely sleep
You, I can't heal your heart

'Cause your heart (so tainted)
Your mind (so tainted)
Your soul (so tainted)
Your eyes (so tainted)
Your heart (so tainted)
Your mind (so tainted)
Your soul (so tainted)
Your eyes (eyes)

You say you won't do me wrong, do me wrong, do me wrong
But that's just all you do
Yeah, that's just all you do to me
Say you won't do me wrong, do me wrong, do me wrong
But that's just all you do
Yeah, that's just all you do to me

Try to make excuses
Blame it on abuse
Seems to be your favorite line for you to use
You see I relate
That we trauma bond
Hold you in my arms
Did I read you wrong?

And I just can't choose how to believe
You, that's the hardest part
And I, I barely eat, I barely sleep
You, I can't heal your heart

'Cause your heart (so tainted)
Your mind (so tainted)
Your soul (so tainted)
Your eyes (so tainted)
Your heart (so tainted)
Your mind (so tainted)
Your soul (so tainted)
Your eyes (eyes)

You say you won't do me wrong, do me wrong, do me wrong
But that's just all you do
Yeah, that's just all you do to me
Say you won't do me wrong, do me wrong, do me wrong
But that's just all you do
Yeah, that's just all you do to me

Long Way Home

Oh, ah
Yeah

We were living clueless, reckless, ignorant
You always act a fool when you're lit, you're belligerent
I didn't have a view about a thing, I was innocent
So if it's red or blue, wouldn't know what the difference is

When we're in my ride, Sunset Drive
Like we're on the freeway, going 35
Took this exit just to hit a 180
'Cause the night's not done 'til we say it is

And the party don't stop 'til it's over
And the bottle don't stop 'til it's almost gone
You say you gotta mix your whiskey in the soda
Oh, it's gonna be a long way home
You know I'm with whatever you say
You know I wouldn't have it no other way
They say it's 99 degrees in Arizona
Oh, it's gonna be a long way home

We just took a tab, now we're breaking out the Matrix
I feel so connected when we're vibin' on the same trip
Tried to call a cab, but it turned into a spaceship
Oh, I make you feel the safest

When we're in my ride, Sunset Drive
Like we're on the freeway, going 35
Took this exit just to hit a 180
'Cause the night's not done 'til we say it is

And the party don't stop 'til it's over
And the bottle don't stop 'til it's almost gone
You say you gotta mix your whiskey in the soda
Oh, it's gonna be a long way home
You know I'm with whatever you say
You know I wouldn't have it no other way
They say it's 99 degrees in Arizona
Oh, it's gonna be a long way home

Heatstroke

What if I told ya the sun is coming closer?
What a heatstroke, such a supernova, ah
Would you hold me close, right here on my shoulder?
It never feels like summer's really over, ah, ah

'Cause when it starts, I'm overwhelmed
No, I can't explain
And then the walls begin to melt
As it bursts into flames
And I recall the way I felt
No, I'll never be the same
No, I wouldn't be the same, ah
Ah

What if I told ya the sun is coming closer?
What a heatstroke, such a supernova, ah
Would you hold me close, right here on my shoulder?
It never feels like summer's really over, ah, ah

'Cause when it starts, I'm overwhelmed
No, I can't ignore
In the end it's hard to tell
What we're all fighting for
Shall we sit here by ourselves
And let go, ah
Ah

So won't you tell me that we'll make it?
Tell me that we'll make it
Tell me that we'll make it
Tell me that we'll make it
Thinkin' maybe we can save us
Maybe we can save this
Maybe we can save this
Maybe we can save this
Yeah, even if we're fakin'
Even if we're fakin'
Even if we're fakin'
Even if we're fakin'
Thinkin' maybe we can save this
Maybe we can save this
Maybe we can save this
Maybe we can save this
Wouldn't that be wonderful?
Wouldn't that be wonderful?
Wouldn't that be wonderful? (Yeah)

Sincere

Tell me what I mean to you
My fingertips are black and blue
I'm holding on to your heart
But it's cold, and now I'm frozen
Don't know what I bring to you
I wonder what you see in me
There's nowhere left I can go
'Cause our chapter is closing

I turn around
Hear your voice in the wind and it calls me
But I don't exist to you
I know my place, and you're fading away
I'm so sorry, ah

Are you sincere? Oh
Are you sincere when you tell me that you want me?
Want nobody but me
Sincere, oh
Are you sincere when you tell me that you care for me? (Tell me that you care for me)
Do I tread carefully now?
(Oh, whoa, oh)
(Oh, whoa, oh)

It's like I'm losing myself
Fill me with doubt
While I bare my wounds
You say you're leaving me
Who's there to help?
I'm lost in this cloud
Like I'm gasping for air
And there's no relief for me

I turn around
Hear your voice in the wind and it calls me
But I don't exist to you
I know my place, and you're fading away
I'm so sorry, sorry

Are you sincere? Oh
Are you sincere when you tell me that you want me?
Want nobody but me
Sincere, oh
Are you sincere when you tell me that you care for me? (Tell me that you care for me)

Now I've got nobody
Now I've got nobody
Now I've got nobody
Now I've got nobody
Now I've got nobody
Now I've got nobody
Now I've got nobody
Now I've got nobody
(Oh, whoa, oh)
(Oh, whoa, oh)
(Oh, whoa, oh)
(Oh, whoa)

Owe To You

One day you're here, another you're gone
I dream about winning you back and taking you home
Wishing I'd see you tonight (wishing I'd see you tonight)
Eats me alive, affecting my brain
I think about nights without you, drives me insane
Making me uneasy now (making me uneasy now)

'Cause you have your options, your life's not stopping
For a random man, where are my manners?
You must've lost 'em
If you give me the chance, then I'll hold your hand
And make you a promise, we'll share romance like it's only us two
Do I owe that to you? Owe that to you tonight

Maybe if the planets were aligned
I'd be the one that's waiting down the aisle
Sharing our vows even if the picture's blurry now
I owe that to you, owe that to you tonight
To show up for you every time
Be the one who guides you to the light
When you feel blind, count on me to follow all the signs that
Point me to you, owe it to you tonight

Sun will rise, minutes awake
The longer that I'm stuck in this bed, our vision will fade
And sadly, you'll be leaving me here (sadly, you'll be leaving me here)
We had it all, but look at us now
It's seeming that the light's gone away, we're stuck in a drought
Watching all our dreams disappear (watching all our)
Dreams disappear

'Cause you have your options, your life's not stopping
For a random man, where are my manners?
Must've lost 'em
I'm left here stranded, how can I handle
If how I see you is not how I planned it?
And then I'm forgotten
Do I owe that to you? Owe that to you tonight

Maybe if the planets were aligned
I'd be the one that's waiting down the aisle
Sharing our vows even if the picture's blurry now
I owe that to you, owe that to you tonight
To show up for you every time
Be the one who guides you to the light
When you feel blind, count on me to follow all the signs that
Point me to you, owe it to you tonight

Oh-oh-oh-oh, I, oh-oh-oh-oh, I
Oh-oh-oh-oh, I (owe that to you, owe that to you tonight)
Oh-oh-oh-oh, I, oh-oh-oh-oh, I
Oh-oh-oh-oh, I (know I owe it to you, owe it to you tonight)

Show I'm forever (every time)
Guide you to the light, light
I will owe it to you, owe it to you tonight

Decline

I never thought it'd be over so quickly
What a shame, I still feel the pain deep inside of my core
I'm not the same as I was when you're with me
Should I build my grave? Wasting away on the living room floor

I thought we were fine, did you change your line?
I don't know if you said you're mine, you're so hard to find
And I hope things were the same, but I'll take the blame and I'll go
I thought we were fine 'til you hit decline when I called

What am I to do all alone in this city?
'Cause I can't replace the memories of you when they start to dissolve
I thought I was okay, all of a sudden, then it hit me
I try to relax, you're not coming back to me after all (after all)

And I thought we were fine, did you change your line?
I don't know if you said you're mine, you're so hard to find
And I hope things were the same, but I'll take the blame
I thought we were fine 'til you hit decline when I called

When I called
When I called
When I called
When I called
When I called, oh-whoa
When I called, oh

Sincere is the third studio album by American singer-songwriter Khalid. It was released through RCA Records on August 2, 2024.

His first studio album release since Free Spirit (2019), the album features a sole guest appearance from English singer-songwriter Arlo Parks, who is featured on the eighth track, "Breathe".

Five years after his second studio album Free Spirit and the mixtape Scenic Drive (2021), Khalid explained that he needed time to understand what kind of artist he wanted to be after his debut at the age of seventeen.

In fact, "I wasn't even writing based on my experiences. I took it back to the roots and approached it as if I were debuting as an artist again. It's like going back to the beginning of my journey, but this time with more awareness and knowledge."
