Lady Gaga - Cheek To Cheek Lyrics
(Featuring Tony Bennett)

Anything Goes

[ Featuring Tony Bennett ]

[Lady Gaga:]

In olden days a glimpse of stocking

Was looked on as something shocking

Now heaven knows, anything goes

[Tony Bennett:]

Good authors too who once knew better words

Now only use four letter words writing prose

Anything goes

[Tony Bennett:]

The world has gone mad today

And good's bad today

[Lady Gaga:]

And day's night today

And black's white today

[Tony Bennett:]

And most guys today that women prize today

[Lady Gaga:]

Are just silly gigolos

[Tony Bennett:]

And though I'm not a great romancer

[Lady Gaga:]

I know you're bound to answer

[Both:]

When we propose, anything goes

[Tony Bennett:]

GO!

[Lady Gaga:]

GO!

[Lady Gaga:]

The world has gone mad today

[Tony Bennett:]

And good's bad today

[Lady Gaga:]

And day's night today

[Tony Bennett:]

And black's white today

[Lady Gaga:]

And most guys today that women prize today

Are just silly gigolos

[Both:]

And though we're not such great romancers

We know that you're bound to answer

When we propose, anything goes

[Tony Bennett:]

Anything goes

[Lady Gaga:]

Anything goes

[Both:]

Anything goes

Dont Wait Too Long

You are the summer and I am the autumn
Don't wait too long
Your song's beginning while mine has been sung
Don't wait too long

Fall is a lovely time of the year
When the leaves turn to gold and brown
But soon fall is ending and winter is near
And the leaves start tumblin' down

Why must the moments go by in such haste?
Don't wait too long
Winter is coming, we've no time to waste
Don't wait too long

And while my heart's gay and foolish and free and still can sing its song
Share every precious moment with me, don't wait too long

So while my heart's gay and foolish and free and still can sing its song
Share every precious moment with me, don't wait too long

I Cant Give You Anything But Love

[Lady Gaga:]
I can't give you anything but love, baby
That's the only thing I've plenty of, baby
Dream a while, scheme a while you're sure to find
Happiness and I guess all those things you've always pined for

Gee, I like to see you looking swell, tony with
Diamond watches, Tiffany's just don't sell, baby
Till the lucky day you know darn well
Oh I can't give you anything but love.

[Tony Bennett:]
I can't give you anything but love, lady
That's the only thing I've plenty of, lady
Dream awhile, scheme a while, you're sure to find
Happiness and I guess all those things you've always pined for
How you like to see me looking swell? lady
Diamond bracelets, Woolworth doesn't sell, Gaga

[Duet:]
Till the lucky day you know darn well, baby
Oh I can't give you anything, I don't want just anything
Oh I can't give you anything but love

Nature Boy

There was a boy
A very strange enchanted boy
They say he wandered very far, very far

Over land and sea
A little shy and sad of eye
But very wise was he

And then one day
A magic day he passed my way
And while we spoke of many things
Fools and kings
This he said to me

The greatest thing you'll ever learn
Is just to love and be loved in return

And then one day
A magic day he passed my way
And while we spoke of many things
Fools and kings
This he said to me

The greatest thing you'll ever learn
Is just to love and be loved in return

Goody Goody

So you met someone who
set you back on your heels,
goody goody!
So you met someone and
now you know how it feels,
goody goody!
So you gave him your heart too,
just as I gave mine to you,
and he broke it in little pieces,
and now how do you do?

So you lie awake
just singing the blues all night,
goody goody!
So you think that love's a
barrel of dynamite,
hurray and hallelujah!
You had it coming to ya,
goody goody for him,
goody goody for me,
and I hope you're satisfied
you rascal you...

So you met someone who
set you back on your heels,
goody goody!
So you met someone and
now you know how it feels,
goody goody!
So you gave him your heart too,
just as I gave mine to you,
and he broke it in little pieces,
and now how do you do?

So you lie awake
just singing the blues all night,
goody goody!
So you think that love's a barrel
of dynamite,
Oo-oo, hurray and hallelujah!
You had it coming to ya,
goody goody for him,
goody goody goody for me!
Your love has been denied,
you've been taken for a ride,
and I hope you're satisfied
you rascal you!

Evry Time We Say Goodbye

We love each other so deeply
that I ask you this, sweetheart,
why should we quarrel ever,
why can't we be enough clever,
never to part.

Ev'ry time we say goodbye
I die a little,
ev'ry time we say goodbye
I wonder why a little,
why the gods above me
who must be in the know
think so little of me
they allow you to go.

When you're near
there's such an air
of spring about it,
I can hear a lark somewhere
begin to sing about it,
there's no love song finer,
but how strange the change
from major to minor...
ev'ry time we say goodbye.
Ev'ry time we say goodbye.

Firefly

I call her Firefly
Cause, oh, my
She radiates moonglow
Wants none of that noon glow
She starts to glitter
When the sun goes down

Bout eight p.m., it's mayhem
She switches the brights up
Lights up and gives me a call
Take me to the Fireflies ball

But when I get her there
Set her there
Do I get to pet her there
And grab me some glow

No, she's a gad about, mad about
Luring every lad about
While leaving me moaning low

Oh, Firefly, why can't I
Latch onto you no how
Oh, how I love you but gee
While you set the night on
Firefly, shine a little light on me

But when I get her there
Set her there
Do I get to pet her there
And grab me some glow

No, she's a gad about, mad about
Luring every lad about
While leaving me moaning low

Oh, Firefly, why can't I
Latch on for you no how
Oh, how I love you but gee
While you set the night on
Firefly, shine a little light on
Shine a little light on
Shine a little light on me
(in the mornin')

I Wont Dance

I won't dance, don't ask me
I won't dance, don't ask me
I won't dance, Madame, with you
My heart won't let my feet do things that they should do

You know what?, you're lovely
And so what? I'm lovely
And, oh, what you do to me
I'm like an ocean wave that's bumped on the shore
I feel so absolutely stumped on the floor

When you dance, you're charming and you're gentle
Especially when we do the Continental
But this feeling isn't purely mental
For, heaven rest us, we're not asbestos

And that's why I won't dance, why should I?
I won't dance, how could I?
I won't dance, merci beaucoup
We know that music leads the way to romance,
So if I hold you in my arms I won't dance

When you dance, you're charming and you're gentle
Especially when you do the Continental
But this feeling isn't purely mental
For, heaven rest us, I am not asbestos

And that's why I won't dance, why should I?
I won't dance, how could I?
I won't dance, merci beaucoup
We know that music leads the way to romance,
So if I hold you in my arms I won't dance
I won't dance, I won't dance, I won't dance
I won't dance, dance, dance
I won't dance

They All Laughed

They all laughed at Christopher Columbus
When he said the world was round
They all laughed when Edison recorded sound
They all laughed at Wilbur and his brother
When they said that man could fly

They told Marconi
Wireless was a phony
It's the same old cry
They laughed at me wanting you
Said I was reaching for the moon
But oh, you came through
Now they'll have to change their tune

They all said we never could be happy
They laughed at us and how!
But ho, ho, ho!
Who's got the last laugh now?

They all laughed at Rockefeller Center
Now they're fighting to get in
They all laughed at Whitney and his cotton gin
They all laughed Fulton and his steamboat
Hershey and his chocolate bar

Ford and his Lizzie
Kept the laughers busy
That's how people are
They laughed at me wanting you
Said it would be, "Hello, Goodbye."
But oh, you came through
Now they're eating humble pie

They all said we'd never get together
Darling, let's take a bow
For ho, ho, ho!
Who's got the last laugh?
Hee, hee, hee!
Let's at the past laugh
Ha, ha, ha!
Who's got the last laugh now?

Lush Life

I used to visit all the very gay places
Those come what may places
Where one relaxes on the axis of the wheel of life
To get the feel of life
From jazz and cocktails
The girls I knew had sad and sullen gray faces
With distingué traces
That used to be there you could see where
They'd been washed away
By too many through the day
Twelve o'clock tales

Then you came along with your siren song
To tempt me to madness
I thought for a while that your poignant smile
Was tinged with the sadness
Of a great love for me
Ah, yes, I was wrong
Again I was wrong

Life is lonely again
And only last year
Everything seemed so sure
Now life is awful again
A troughful of hearts
Could only be a bore

A week in Paris will ease the bite of it
All I care is to smile in spite of it
I'll forget you I will
And yet you are still
Burning inside my brain

Romance is mush
Stifling those who strive
I'll live a lush
Life in some small dive
And there I'll be
While I rot with the rest
Of those whose lives are lonely too

Back to: Lady Gaga

Cheek to Cheek is the first collaborative album by American singers Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, released on September 19, 2014, by Columbia and Interscope Records. It is Bennett's fifty-eighth studio album, and Gaga's fourth.

The two first met at the Robin Hood Foundation gala in New York City in 2011, and later recorded a rendition of "The Lady Is a Tramp" together, after which they began discussing plans of working on a jazz project. Cheek to Cheek consists of jazz standards by popular composers such as George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, and Irving Berlin. It was inspired by Bennett and Gaga's desire to introduce the songs to a younger generation, since they believed these tracks have a universal appeal.

In January 2013, the album was announced by both artists and started its recording process after Gaga recovered from a hip surgery. It was recorded in New York City, where Bennett and Gaga were accompanied by a live band and jazz musicians associated with both artists.

Gaga deviated from her previous contemporary pop albums as she wanted instead to create a jazz record. The release date of the album was delayed multiple times, and the final date was announced by Bennett and Gaga on The Today Show. The full-length track listing and cover artwork was released thereafter, including the track lists for many alternate editions.

The artists promoted Cheek to Cheek through multiple performances in and around New York, a behind-the-scenes program detailing the recording of the album on the Home Shopping Network (HSN), and a televised concert titled Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga: Cheek to Cheek Live!, which aired on PBS in October 2014.

The album was preceded by the release of two singles: "Anything Goes" and "I Can't Give You Anything but Love", which both reached number one on Billboard's Jazz Digital Songs Chart in the United States.

Cheek to Cheek received generally positive reviews upon release, with critics praising the vocal chemistry between Bennett and Gaga. At the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, the album won Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. Cheek to Cheek debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, with 131,000 copies sold in its first week according to Nielsen SoundScan, and has since sold 773,000 copies in the United States.

The album became Bennett's second number-one album and Gaga's third consecutive number-one in the US; Gaga became the first female artist in the country to have three number-one albums in the 2010s decade, while Bennett extended his record as the oldest artist to achieve a number-one album on the chart.

The album also reached the top ten in Australia, Canada, Greece, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom. The duo's second collaborative album, Love for Sale, was released on September 30, 2021.
