March 28, 1984
A terrible tornado through the farmlands tore
The poor country people
Greenville, North Carolina
Still talkin' about the great
Tornado of The Eastern Pines
Like a freight train coming
It happened so fast
Little children crying in the rain
Helpless in the aftermath
People's lives were scattered
Among the live power lines
Sofas, clothes and family pictures
A clocked that stop just past nine
"Our lives are over, curse these terrible times."
I never will forget it y'all
The great tornado
Of the Eastern Pines
Trees all shredded and twisted
In a wide path for miles
People looking for their friends in the junk pile
Good friends flew away
With the ceilings and walls
Some we found them miles away
Some we never found at all
So much sorrow
So much crying
I never will forget it y'all
The great tornado
Of the Eastern Pines
So much sorrow
So much crying
I never will forget it, no
The great tornado
Of the Eastern Pines
