One night in Reno I drove down a dirt road
Not really knowing my way
I stopped to get gas when a young lady asked me
If I might be going her way
Her two hands were shaking, she started to cry
As she stood there and poured out her heart
She said he had left her for somebody younger
That it had drove them apart
And I said cowboys and angels are all what we're made of
Some of us other than more
Some ride the range while some others think strange
It is better to love than to war
Some carry holsters while others wear halos
And wonder what this fighting's for
As the cowboys and angels we have in todays world
Are not like the cowboys and angels before
Several years later back home in Missouri
I saw the young lady by chance
So I stumbled over and tapped on her shoulder
And asked her politely to dance
And as we got closer I finally told her
I've waited for you all my life
And in that split second I hoped and I reckoned
That someday she'd end up my wife
I said cowboys and angels are all what we're made of
Some of us other than more
Some ride the range while some others think strange
It is better to love than to war
And some carry holsters while others wear halos
And wonder what this fighting's for
As the cowboys and angels we have in todays world
Are not like the cowboys and angels before
The years have been kind and we're doing fine
And I'm sure proud to say
That three lovely angels now sit at our table
And I tell them every day
That cowboys and angels are all what we're made of
Some of us other than more
Some ride the range while some others think strange
It is better to love than to war
And some carry holsters while others wear halos
And wonder what this fighting's for
Cause the cowboys and angels we have in todays world
Are not like the cowboys and angels before
Yeah the cowboys and angels we have in todays world
Are not like the cowboys and angels before
