Mike Murphy - Trouble Lyrics

Mike Murphy - Trouble Lyrics
Official

In 1863 it was the Great Emancipate
But freedom was restricted by the wickedness of hate
By 19 double 0 they called it separate but equal
Then sliced it up in zones with help of loopholes barely legal
The red lines marked the maps giving nothing to the black
And that was how the system started how the odds they would be stacked
And as millions left the South with hopes of no more segregation
They were welcomed to a world with just as much discrimination
Trouble oh, trouble oh, no breathin' (No breathin')
See it oh, see it oh, we're grievin' (We're grievin')
All the pain begins to flow
Light the fire born so long ago
As the world starts to glow
In 1948 they finally let us live together
'Til the Housing Act was born and scorn the black into the nether
Imagine all the houses being built to help our nation, but you don't get one, son
Because your darkened pigmentation
For decades many fought and finally earned the civil rights
But still the system doesn't work when it is shifted to the whites
Livin' in the poverty of Uncle Sam's disgrace
Still you actually have to question why there's anger in this place?
Struggle oh, struggle oh, so real yeah (So real yeah)
See it oh, see it oh, we're kneelin' (We're kneelin')
Black and white have turned to gray
Red and blue can find another day
'Til we all find a way
Heaven knows what we could do
If we were equal through and through
We could lift all humankind
If we'd live life colorblind
And our children they would see
With their eyes of unity
And our world would be free
Trouble, oh, trouble, oh, it's gone now (It's gone now)
See it, oh, see it, oh, so long now (So long now)
All the hate is flushed away
Now the people you can hear them say
That our world will be okay
In 2020 something changed that screamed above the sound of silence
Unity and love would kill the hatred and the violence
As bigotry was voted out the system started shiftin'
The people came together and the new laws they were written
The leadership would change and give new hope to all the nation
Instead of all talk we'd learn to fix our cracked foundation
And Dr. King's dream would finally come to its fruition
Free at last and racism was now an abolition
