In a snow fall
I stop my working for a second
In the little space between my breaths
I heard a small sound down beneath the blood rushing
Crouched, buried away
In the basement of my life
I go downstairs in the dark
Cold wind in the face
Incomprehension
Between each breath I breathe out
There's a little moment of death
Everything hangs
And then I draw air in again
In this constant coming back to life
A flickering spark jumps sharp in my eye
I scan the horizon from this spot where I stand
Nothing returns
I give this and the next and the next and all following
Breaths!
