Nickeltree - Diggers of Peat Lyrics

We haven't had much to talk about lately
But we sill keep track of time
Every day's just a hesitation
With no breaks in the line
And all the towns on pins and needles
Waiting for the word When the seam comes up empty
And the course takes a turn

My daddy was a digger of peat
Held his head high when he walked down the street
Then they told him There's no work here You can leave

He stopped walking down the street
There's something dark about this lightning
You don't see it at first
They send you down a mile to grab it
Then they scrape it from the earth
Paints your face in this blackness
Shreds your lungs to pieces
But there's something about workin here
Makes you never want to leave it
Now the church is next to the mill yard
Cemetery's next to a farm
And every man makes his living
Knowin' he's only got so long So long
