Owen McMahon - Film Score Soundtracks Lyrics

Sometimes I find myself imagining the lives I'll never live
Staring off into the gloaming, film score soundtracks in my head
And I make-up a life of legend in the hard-fought city game
The deck ever stacked against me and my eyes fixed on my aim
Or as a farm boy from a place that wouldn't show up on a map
With preternatural abilities and a destiny intact
Or in a multi-family duplex, on the second story porch
Looking out onto the neighborhood as I yearn for something more

Everybody's got their odds there for the beating
And a feeling towards their own blank-canvas town
Life is here and had and made for good and meaning
But you can't do everything, don't let it get you down

Maybe my sweetheart is from New Jersey, Omaha or Santa Fe
I got ball to play in Boston, songs and movies in LA
New York needs another conquering, I'm the man to do the job
Cut my teeth in Minnesota or the hills of Oregon
The Shenandoah, Mississippi, Rio Grande I'll sail 'em all
Be the baddest man in Texas, Jack of Hearts in Arkansas
Hone my skills in Iowa, or Kansas' endless fields
Or just build a life in anonymity somewhere that's not here

Everybody's got their odds there for the beating
And a background in their own blank-canvas town
Life is here and had and made for good and meaning
But you can't do everything, don't let it get you down

I'm looking out the window, I give myself a different name
Different towns and streets and houses but the feeling's still the same
Daydreaming about these lives that range from famous to obscure
40 minutes outta Hartford of a few things I am sure
That heaven is a playground and a basement open mic
A good hang and a good girl, a long drive with songs I like
The hero's got a thousand faces, don't count yourself out yet, my friend
From the million little corners of American experience

Everybody's got their odds there for the beating
And a feeling towards their own blank-canvas town
Life is here and had and made for good and meaning
But you can't do everything, don't let it get you down
