Look under my cloak. See these broke and hopeless kids out of focus
Too hungry to notice
Scowling. Wolfish. Life short and brutish
Welcome to the virtue you've oft called prudence
Children are the price of the lift you've sought
Eat from the bottom of bins. Teeth rot from within
And the circles you swim called their gluttony sin
They are Ignorance. Want. And I read on the brim:
Doom
I'm puzzled. Confuddled. Help me with a riddle
Who is it to care for the stale, the shriveled, the pale belittled
The frail and disfigured whom ailments riddle
Who stands by mankind denied?
Men who abide as if their hands were tied
Too sure of their sordid fortunes to shore up
The poor and the unloved. Deserving of humbug
Doom. Doom. Doom from the head to the feet
Doom. Doom on the dread they are fed when they eat
Doom on the pain in their guts. In their brains
On the cuts and the stains. In the blood in their veins
Doom. Doom. Doom on the scabs on the eyes
Doom. Doom on the sobs, on the screams, on the sighs
Doom on the flesh. Doom. Doom on the breath
And for you, so soon, there is Doom left
Who pays the price for your sheltered life?
How many wrestle with their demons while you sleep at night?
Squeeze 'em tight. Squeeze 'em tight for an easy price
How very generous of you to offer free advice
The world's lopsided. Still deny it?
But the markets have decided for the pillaged and the plighted life is
Worthless. Surplus. Should not concern us
Better off they slip away and finally be of service
Soon
I'll reunite with my kin. And perhaps you too if their is life within
Or deny your sin. With your pride and grin
And your breathe gets swept into undying wind
Spend the days of your grave in mirages and visions
Humanity betrayed by workhouses and prisons
Out of sight. Out of mind. Conveniently blind
If you look a little closer. Come and seek, and you'll find
Doom. Doom. Doom from the head to the feet
Doom. Doom on the dread they are fed when they eat
Doom on the pain in their guts. In their brains
On the cuts and the stains. In the blood in their veins
Doom. Doom. Doom on the scabs on the eyes
Doom. Doom on the sobs, on the screams, on the sighs
Doom on the flesh. Doom. Doom on the breath
And for you, so soon, there is Doom left
