Sometimes at night you can find me visualizing
There's a boy, twelve years old, at a podium eulogizing
Three years back he's at the oncologist cause his gums are bleeding
When he's not in his room you can find him writing or retreating

While looking back I see this girl up at night plagued by dying
A fear set off by her grandfather's recent passing
To ease the uncertainty, she invents a system of counting
Creating a roadmap to save her loved ones from vanishing

An old man sits at a table with his grandson dining
"This shouldn't be you, kid, this should be me," says the man apologizing
Next the young girl looks out the window and sees her grandfather waving
Then she's on a counselor's couch due to the intensity of her grieving

Years pass and these two kids find their paths interlacing
On their first outing the man shares a recording of his singing
Shortly after he pulls out his guitar and they're co-creating
When they're making love, together they find themselves healing

And she says, "What if my brain won't shut off when there's nothing left to unpack?
Cause I feel this dull ache subside when you're pressed against my chest."
And he says, "The divine resides inside, we're entwined, let yourself rest
Cause even if you run, oh my love, there's no turning back."

While they're redefining the ways they've learned to love
She's left resisting and wondering, "Why can't I just surrender to us?
Is this depth of feeling sadness or is it knowing?
If we're united as one why can it still feel so damn lonely?"

And she says, "This kid inside me can't trust when certainty is what life lacks
Cause in this world twinned with death how can this connection last?"
And he says, "Now that we're one please don't run. When we create it's death that we move past. If you just let fear sit, it will pass. I'm your mirror back."
