Alright, we're live
Cody Tarpley and SoMo in this biatch
I don't know if I should cuss 'cause then we'll have to make it an explicit album
And we did a good job not using any cuss words on this one, so
Um, I don't think what I just said is a cuss word
I won't say it again
But we can beep it if, if so
Anyways, here we are
What's up, Cody, how you doing?
What's going on?
We're just sitting around a fake campfire right now
And we're gonna talk about this album
And the process
Which was a very fun process, this was the first time that-
Me and Cody have worked a whole lot
You know Cody from my Ride days, from the very beginning
And you know, we've been working together for a very long time
But this was one of the first ones that I wrote a majority of the songs pre production
So he got to come in as a producer and just do his thing
How you feel about that, Cody?
I feel like you were in your bag this last month, for sure
Sure fun
Yeah, I feel like one of my favorite ways to work is just focusing on the song itself
And you've already written the songs
Fully from a place of solo isolation in your studio
Feeling what you feel
And I just get to come in and really just dress up everything that you've already made
Which is really fun for me
I feel like we were able to just get into our zone
And just crank out a full album in like two and a half weeks
So
Yeah, crazy
I'm a big believer of flow state
Same
Yeah, and we've had a lot of conversations about that
Which we've already decided, we're probably gonna start a little podcast
And talk about that in full detail, but, um
We're here to talk about 9 Lives
And uh, this project means a lot
I feel like I've lived 9 lives, you know
I started, started this journey with my life one
And it's lead up to this and
And just going from being like bachelor to having children
Going through this whole thing
And my last album being The Duality of Man
And it being so introspective
It was definitely time for me to bounce back and get back to my OG SoMo ways
Which I'm so grateful that me and Cody
You know I haven't made him mad or you know, been mean enough for him to stop working with me
So you know we're able to, we're able to continue this road, I, I
And I love him for that
And for being able to understand what I'm tryna say sometimes, you know
Sometimes artists have a funny way of communicating with production, so
It's, it's definitely good, yeah
But, anything you wanna say about your process there, Mr. Cody?
Yeah, I've been in LA for about ten years
Started my music career in Texas, which is where I was born and raised
And SoMo was one of the first artists that I ever worked with
And we've been day ones ever since
So it was really cool flying back home
Spending time with my family, spending time with him and his family
And being able to reconnect with my roots
Reconnect with my people, reconnect with the music
Which is ultimately what got me into my career
And what got my into moving to a place like California
So, all in all, this has been a really fun and reconnective experience for me
'Cause I've been able to be home in Texas
And get to reconnect with my soul with music
That's what it means to me
Hell yeah
9 Lives, baby, took us this many
Hopefully we have more, but you know
This is the ninth one
The lucky one, I'm calling it, I'm calling it
I feel strong about all these songs and
We were talking before this, you know
I didn't necessarily wanna break down every song
I want you to, I want all the people out there to have a chance to like
Let these songs mean whatever they mean to, to you personally
But for me, you know, one of the very special ones being "How?"
I would like to tell that story
And that's, that's a special story, um
Ah, you know, the mother of my children is always gonna be the love of my life
And um, a couple years ago around Thanksgiving
There was a moment where I thought, you know, that was gonna be over forever
Um, I sat down at the piano and literally, on Thanksgiving
Sitting by myself in a house full of, you know, the memories of my kids growing up and
I try not to get emotional talking about it but
Um, "How?' is just the song I'm talking about and
It comes from a real place and, and
I recently sat down with some other people talking about it and
As a songwriter, sometimes I think people just assume these are just made up stories
And to, to get that story out so clearly in musical form
Is something uh, that I'm forever grateful for
And to be able to create music and just tell my story is important to me
And I do hope that it resonates with people out there
And that you feel what I feel
And not to, you know, say that I want you to feel sad or anything
But I believe in the power of music and its healing properties
And um, I'm, um, glad to be able to share that
Especially from the perspective of a man
I think a lot of men don't get that opportunity to be emotional and to be vulnerable
And I think we should all open up a little bit more to that, so
Yeah, and I'm glad to hear for Cody
Like, you know, we've had a lot of conversations
To hear that he's been able to like reconnect
And let go of some of his own stuff that he's been dealing with
And just really dive back into the, the heart
And reconnect to the soul of why we do this, it's, it's important
And I'm just glad that we've been able to do that, so
I think uh, I think this is a good place to end it and you know
And to just take this, these feelings and go on and celebrate and
We're literally submitting this album, you know, today
This is the final thing that we're recording
I'm just excited to hear what y'all think
And right now none of y'all heard it
And it's gonna be a great thing when you do
So thank you again
