It was late in the evening in middle September
Our band was playing fine songs, I remember
And Sandy and I met for the first time
Again since the years left us behind
I spoke to her freely while we held each other
Outside the place where the band and the others
Were making attempts to salvage a night
While Sandy and I stood in starlight
And in a brave moment I said that I loved her
Suddenly we were children no more and I told her
I told her those things that I wanted to tell her for years
We spoke of old memories and laughed at our past
And even brought light to some shadows we cast
It was just a small club on a slow Saturday night
But something about her made me feel right
The band did quite well, like the Titanic's own
And after we played we each drifted home
Now four in the morning it's time for sleep
The night is forgotten but the memories of Sandy I'll Keep
And in a brave moment I said that I loved her
Suddenly we were children no more and I told her
I told her those things that I wanted to tell her for years
