I caught her eyes in the candle light
When she brought me a scotch and water
One lonely heart to another
I said "it's cold out tonight"
It surprised her that I had spoken
She didn't know what to say
Slowly turned away
And left the silence unbroken
I wondered if I looked so bad
Or if it was a flawless show
And what did she really know
The drink on my lips sure tasted bad
Someone broke at the table of pool
Some lady laughed out loud
The smoke in the room was a cloud
And flying through it was a fool
How did my glass get empty already
When it's raining so bad outside
Bring me another scotch and water
I saw by the clock it was time for a set
So I tuned my guitar strings
And wondered if she sings
When her hair is all wet
Someone coughed, another looked up
I turned on my amp and sat down
Took a quick look around
And drank from a chipped coffee cup
She looked a little sorry for me
When I told the microphone my name
Someone finished a pool game
And pulled up a chair to see
For three lonely hours I sang my songs
For the scotch and the water and her
Wondering once just who we were
And why we've been lost for so long
How did my glass get empty already
When it's raining so bad outside
Bring me another scotch and water
