For My Sake
For my sake, you'd be on that screen porch in those old wooden rocking chairs
First cup of coffee, Dad, just you and Mamma enjoying the cool morning air
You both looking forward to me bringing your grandson
While I 'm at work I know he's safe with you there
Jamie's granddad and granny, for my sake you'd still be, child day care extraordinaire
But for your sake it's better, to be in the presence, of our Lord and Savior in paradise
Though I'd never ask him to send you back down here, an occasional visit sure would be nice
But after one second at the doorstep of heaven, I'm sure you want to stay right where you are
For your sake I'm happy, for my sake I'm wishin, missing you wasn't so hard
For my sake each Thursday, come to your place for dinner
A tradition that's close to my heart
Then back on that screen porch just sittin and talking
Staying out there till way after dark,
And there's father's day and mother's day, birthdays and holidays
And days I just might want to call
For my sake you'd be there to pick up the phone, for my sake you wouldn't be gone
But for your sake it's better, to be in the presence, of our Lord and Savior in paradise
Though I'd never ask him to send you back down here, a short little visit sometimes would be nice
But after one second at the doorstep of heaven, I'm sure you want to stay right where you are
For your sake I'm happy, for my sake I'm wishin, missing you wasn't so hard
Jesus Christ gave His life, paid the ultimate price
So we could say Oh death where is your sting
And though it's hard not to hurt, while we're down here on earth
Thanks to Him I know I'll see you again.
And in that second, we cross into heaven, and our tears are a thing of the past
For our sakes I'm grateful, through Christ we transition.
So, no more missing you Mom and Dad
But for now for my sake, you'd be on that screen porch in those old wooden rocking chairs
