Two friends meet, one blows on his coffee
He wonders why he drinks though he don't like the taste
The other says I'll take the rest of yours with me
After all why should we let it go to waste
Day in and day out
This empty routine fills him with doubt
That he'll amount to anything, anything
His friend sees him ponder, and he tells it like it is
There is no us, there is no them
You don't have to tell me that you feel alone my friend
Don't look surprised, it's modern life
One boy faked a million pictures
To paint a life the world won't let him life in his place
He comes across old friends he left in his past
A photograph that screams to him he's been replaced
Threw his love out the window
His life lived on pillows
Where he can feel alive as he reclaims what this world takes
And maybe in his dreams they'll tell it like it is
There is no us, there's only them
The covers as they catch you from the heights of your descent
Now close your eyes and leave modern life
There's no more meaning
Says a man as he's bleeding
While his final words ring out, they curse our empty ways
And all those who are with him tell it like it is
There is no us, but there's still them
Who are we to pin our blame on youthfulness my friend
God knows they might change modern life
