Does This Effectively Hide My Thunder?
Said i know who i am's not who they want me to be
Was never good with a tie or the idea of greed
Perpetuating a lie, a false ideology
That me or money's worth more than all you, my family
When those who raised me up right were bent or broken by grief
Got rescued by my friends did not become all that i hate
We've failed for so long now to pledge our own identity
There's pride in knowing my soul has never been on a receipt
Do you know who you are or who you don't want to be?
When you get cast to the side because they don't want to see
Anyone in their play who acts like you or me
Well I've read the reviews & I'd rather be free
Take the books they used to grow us, leave the pages where they lie
Tear the letters words & phrases, leaving nothing to decry
All this empty, all this soulless, written history of why
We must aspire without condolence to be birds that cannot fly
We are more than what they made us
